If only MCDONALDS had made 50 tokens

One for each year, can you imagine the frenzy 50 different ones would have created... by the way many of the redeemed ones are being redeemed in the original packaging. Evidently each day franchises send them back to corporate for $ reimbursement

I nearly canceled my Coin World subscription after seeing these "tokens" on the front page of the last issue.
But that's not to say I don't own MCD. I just think it's not exciting "numismatic'' news, or interest. But I've been wrong before. See what I don't know ?
What? , this seems like a great way to get kids into little round metal object that are collectible.
Hey you!
Get off my front page!!!

Of course there are always the coins that have been used for the entire life of the Big Mac to buy them. It's not like there's a deficit of designs and dates in circulation. There are dozens of designs and hundreds of date/ mm combinations.
Odds are good that almost every clad quarter minted before 1980 was used numerous times to buy a Big Mac or was given back in change from a purchase of one. Indeed, most of the later ones have been used as well.
Indeed, these quarters were there as the classic Big Mac tokens were distributed as well.
I'd warn people to stay away from modern tokens since no one knows how many will turn up or their condition. Who knows McDounalls might release the redeemed tokens destroying any value of existing tokens. How many other hoards are out there?
Coinstar is smart enough to have these routed directly to the internal reject container. They are sure to be valuable.
My Coinstar machine has been getting serviced three times a day since this promotion began.
Given that Coin World also covers the World Mints and has reported on such notables as Peanuts, Star Trek, Superman, UFO, Darth Vader, and Boaty McBoatface coins, the McD's tokens aren't exactly below their standards...
And the tokens generated a lot of buzz. It even got you to comment on it, so you're partly to blame.
(Okay, their name is Coin World, so they have to cover the coins from Perth, RCM, Pobjoy and the others, but I think I'd rather have a Big Mac token over what those guys are turning out... And yeah, I bought a Mickey Mouse coin from Perth as a gift once, so I'm not going to condemn everything they put out...
)
A coin is a coin, is a coin, or a token. The value lies in the illusion.
Yes, but they don't say Big Mac on them. Never underestimate the power of the Mac,
Are you somehow implying people are paying a lot of money for these? At most, it's getting them to buy food they would never ordinarily consume. Still others, actually eat the things. They do sell 1.5 million a day in the U.S. alone...
Of course, they're pretty much "sold out" now, so the supply has been shut off. They stamped out over 6 million of these things, but the wild card is they can be "redeemed" for a Big Mac further reducing availability. I wonder if we'll find out how many tokens were redeemed. I wonder if someone from China will have counterfeits available before the tokens expire. Heh.
Maybe they'll take all the redeemed tokens, melt them down and cast an Officer Big Mac.
If you want a laugh, go here. It does a count of McDonald's products sold since you got on the site.
