If you still have to wonder about it ... is it really worth bothering with? If you still have to wonder about it ... is it worth paying a premium to have it?
No doubt the 8 is over something... and perhaps it is a 7...I just think there would be more of the 7 showing inside the 8... and that could be totally wrong due to the digit placement... I look forward to hearing the backstory FTB. Cheers, RickO

The backstory on the coin is worth a laugh, and I was hoping to share it with the forum after slabbing so I could tell the whole story. Maybe I'll still get to do that.

LOL, that leaves more for the rest of us. This is one of the coin's that only a numismatist or Indian cent specialist could love. They are still to be found because even when one is shoved into the face (including all the diagnostics) of those claiming to be dealers...
Do you own or deal in 3-legged buffalo's? Now, those polishing errors are really worth collecting!

I have never had any interest in the 3-legged Buffalo's. Even when I first started collecting in 1961 I considered the idea of paying big premiums for polishing errors to be stupid, even though there was a space in the albums for them.

This is the overdate and one of the nicest I've ever seen! The rim break over the "ED" easily confirms the variety.
Buy it.
What he said. Sorry that it sounds like no deal is happening.

A beauty
Nice. What's at immediate left of the last 8?
I'm wondering the same. There are several things about the 8 that I can't match to known examples of the variety.
@EagleEye Any thoughts Rick.
Looks legit to me.
I’m still not convinced

I'm not even thinking of buying it. I would like to be able to tell the owner if it's real.
Look at the bottom of the 8 in the OP... opposite of where the arrows are pointing.

Had to look this up since I don't know Indian cents very well. Wow!

The cud next to "TE" in UNITED is the telltale sign. I believe it is on all known examples.
If that is "one of the nicest" then it is a variety I would ignore. I have never been impressed by the 1888/7, if that, in fact, is what it is.
It sure looks right to me. Congrats early FTB. Look forward to your pics.

I agree. It's quite rare but it's not much of an overdate IMHO.
That's a shame. It's a really nice looking coin

1) edit your post
2) I don’t think it’s an overdate in general
3) life happens. Don’t sweat it
