I saw this and was taken aback as I didn't know they were faking these too. Not my series but do you agree it's a fake?

Not fake. It looks like a genuine 1917 Type 1 to me.
What leads you to think it is fake? Anything will be faked except junk silver so far. It may be next.
Why do you think it may be fake?
#numisma #291fifth #Smudge The shape of the lettering on the reverse looks odd. Look at OF, the O is not even round.

Quite the naval for a circulated specimen.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
I'd need to see the edge, but nothing jumps out and says it's fake. The letters were sculpted by hand, so they aren't perfectly done like now, which are done by a computer. And if there is any contact near the O, it could make it look odd.
Over priced piece of junk to me. RAW beat up EF details coin.
And the more I look at it probably fake.
A real one to compare it to. PCGS AU58
The "hex" punch above the eagle is distracting.
Starting to see your point. Good comparison.
Look at the DOLLAR weakness in the fake. Real one has nice strong lettering, not mushy and skinny.
oh well,

$500? WTF ??
I think it's just a banged up real one.
So they faked the coin and then added a hex punch to the middle to make it look authentic?
The Chinese will do anything to make them look good. They do do that with the CC dollars. Wouldn't put it past them.
Good discussion.

I'm really torn on this. In some ways it says real and in a few it says fake I dont know this has me stumped.
HAPPY COLLECTING
Fake!
You can start a thread with virtually any coin and eventually one or more forum members will say it's counterfeit.

Dealers sometimes say that if you look at enough coins everything starts to look fake. Especially once you've been burned once with a good fake, you overanalyze the same coins you used to just KNOW were good.
It looks authentic to me.... just a well traveled silver coin.... Cheers, RickO
It isn't screaming "fake" to me. It is just screaming "pass".
The top 4 feathers under "UNITED" look clipped, not rounded. Strange.
The texture of the toning make it look odd.
