Anyone know, (guesses), what happens to the, redeemed coins for a Big Mac, that go back to the McDonald's restaurants?

I wondered that too. Time to start checking their trash every night!

I posted this in the other thread...

Aaand Coin World has some info on these:

coinworld: McDonald’s celebrates Big Mac 50th anniversary with token promotion

The MacCoin tokens were struck at Osborne Coinage Co., the oldest private mint in the United States, located in Cincinnati.

Gibson Ollp, marketing manager for Osborne, said the tokens are struck on 1.25-inch brass planchets and bear a reeded edge. Equal mintages of each of the five tokens were produced, he said.

Phil Saken, communications and brand reputation manager in Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan for McDonald’s USA LLC, said each participating restaurant will be provided equal numbers of each of the five tokens and when the allotment for each restaurant is exhausted, the promotion will end.

While the program launches Aug. 2, the tokens won’t be redeemable until Aug. 3, Saken said. The tokens can be redeemed through Dec. 31.

The tokens will be for a one-time use only. Tokens that are redeemed will not be handed out to another customer, Saken said. Saken said McDonald’s has not yet decided what will happen with all of the redeemed tokens.

They should of put on the cert if hungry crack out, I don't see a expiration on the coin so is it good forever the forever token?

I just got my first one tonight. I was able to get a Big Mac for a $1.08 using my McDonald's app. There was a coupon for any sandwich for $1.00. I got the 1978-1988, just 4 more to go. :)

For those interested in these tokens the big questions are when will the individual Mickey D's start running out of these tokens and what will they be worth in the after market.

I was hoping to get one struck through grease!

The McDs near me allowed 4 on same purchase, and they weren't even sure how to hand them out--apparently I was the first to ask today.

    Dear asheland,
May I send you $50 to feed more homeless and send me the set? B)

Well the stores I have been in would let me choose (which is very cool of them)
I talked to a manager today in the Old Fort, NC location and he told me that every store got a single box with 225 coins in it. All randomly mixed in.

He said a lot of stores sold out yesterday (which is easy to believe) However this location had a little over half the box left so they are giving them out until they are gone. I got another one today. >:)

Saw somewhere that says, “Good only til end of 2018”.

I scrutinized a photo of the obverse (?) since all of mine show the reverse. It is a bit convoluted but if you find your language and piece the text together it says that its value is one Big Mac through 2018.

Good idea. Somehow I can't see PF sitting down and choking down five Big Macs.

All this continued token talk has me tempted to try for a second set, but I don't think my stomach will let me. They are nicely executed, though. I just don't understand why there was not more promotion of them, even inside the McDs themselves.

I got my 3rd today! I had two of the same date after the first two days, but my brother in law went with me today and we both got dates I didn't have yet, so he traded his for my repeat date. I'm already this invested, might as well try for all 5!

    Excellent.

I found that when I went after the dinner rush the counter was quiet even though the drivethru was still busy, and I asked if I could search their stash for the ones I needed and they let me.

"each participating restaurant will be provided equal numbers of each of the five tokens..."

That's a LIE! I went to six McDonald's and not one had the 1998-2008 coin!

    $1.09 for mine.

I keep getting mine for $1.00 as well. Gotta love the McDonald's app with the digital coupons. :)

I have 5 total now, but all the McDonald's locations around here seem to only have the 1968-1978, 1978-1988 and 2008-2018. One of the locations close to me let me search their entire stash to trade my dupes, but no luck. :(

I'd like to see how this affects McDonald's Q3 results. It might lead other companies to do the same.

6.2 million pieces, divided by 5 = 1,240,000 of each. Unknown distribution. They do have intrinsic value! One Big Mac.

    I confess, I stalked McDonalds yesterday. :)

6.2 million is quite the number. (Probably 6.25 million, or 1.25 million/coin.) Imagine what would be said right now if the Mint released a 5 token set with a mintage of 1.25 million of each token (or as a 5 token set with a product limit of 1.25 million.)

Yet with this promotion, people are willing to go and buy (and eat) food they don't particularly care for just to get one. (Why couldn't this have been the quarter-pounder 50th anniversary. I would have been much happier.)

Such is the power of McDonalds and the Big Mac...

Waffle House should do a promotion like this. :D

If you buy a Big Mac, and if they have any tokens left. Apparently if you get the McD app on your phone you will get a coupon to buy it for $1.

Their app is pretty cool. I just downloaded it less than a week ago.

I thought I was being smart by travelling to all these different locations to buy a $5 Bic Mac I didn't need so I could finally get all 5 tokens. But, some are doing the same at $1 a pop. :p

None of the McDonald's in my area have these...I'd have to drive out of the county here in N.W. Ohio to secure one. Not too ambitious as craze has set in....

Hopefully Burger King will follow suit, along with DQ, and Taco Bell. Would be a great fast-food series. Collecting against culinary consciousness...a struggle between mind, and intestinal fortitude with heart at stake.

Fast food may not contribute to the collector base...in the long term at least. :#
