Unusual Dime I Got From A Customer

Hi All,

I don't usually collect coins but I do collect US Currency Notes. I received a coin from a customer today. I have not seen a coin like this before. It's a 1941 dime coin. What kind of value?

    The redbook value says it is worth around 30 dollars in MS65 and the price jumps drastically when higher than 65. Unfortunately your coin seems to fall short of MS. If you're lucky and find a determined buyer you could probably sell it for a couple of bucks but most coin dealers would offer you a buck for it. On the bright side it is worth 10x as much as a regular dime a customer would usually hand you.

    Nice old 'Mercury' dime.... not worth much numismatically, but silver melt value is around a dollar to a dollar twenty.... Cheers, RickO

    It’s an amazing find in circulation and would make anyone here’s day. That said, from a collecting standpoint they are common and have no numismatic premium. The coin contains about 1/14th of an ounce of silver so it is worth $1.11 as of right now.

    Finding a silver coin in circulation, especially an obsolete design like a Mercury dime (minted from 1916 to 1945), is not a common occurrence these days. Congrats!

    Far beyond it's worth as a silver dime is the priceless experience of getting a Mercury dime in circulation. That is one dime I would never forget!

    Until I left northern Utah 11 years ago, I typically received 1 or 2 silver dimes or a silver quarter in change every year.

    Its a cool little keepsake that may have bought a couple of beers for servicemen shipping out of San Francisco in WW2..................Not a whole lot of value although

    Excellent find. I haven't seen a mercury dime in circulation for a very long time.
