The Belle Isle Aquarium was designed by Detroit architect, Albert Kahn, and opened on August 18, 1904. It is the oldest aquarium in the country... In 2005, the city of Detroit announced that the Aquarium was to be closed due to lean economic times for the city. The building remained closed to the public until the Belle Isle Conservancy reopened it on September 15, 2012.
It is not that life is short, but that you are dead for so very long.
Leading up to the Super Bowl, this week's photo is of a piece of Mormon Gold I once owned which has a tie-in to the Kansas City Chiefs' coach Andy Reid who is a Mormon.
Combining the Super Bowl and Food themes, photos of yesterday's TV tailgate fare including Japanese Potato Salad, not too hot Wings .... and carrots from our summer garden.
Relevant as these photos I took last year from Mikimoto Pearl Island in Japan shows the Cruise Ship Diamond Princess at anchor. This week it is at anchor in Yokohama Bay with over 3,000 passengers and crewmen quarantined on board after 10 were taken off infected with the Coronavirus after journeying to Hong Kong.
Unfortunately the passengers are confined to their cabins and unable to enjoy some of the amenities I photographed while on board the ship:
Inside a slot canyon in Utah, east of Zion National Park. Note the depressions pecked into one of the walls--these are so-called Moqui Steps. There are many Puebloan Indian ruins in Utah, and ancillary evidence of human occupation in areas that are now sparsely inhabited, predating the arrival of Europeans by hundreds of years to millennia. The steps likely served as a means to access a food cache on a high shelf, or even as an emergency exit (with a ladder perhaps nearby too) in the event of a flash flood or attack.

Here are a few more photos of the Diamond Princess as well as some of the activities aboard it before its present status where it is anchored outside of Yokohama Port with its 3,500 plus passengers and crew under quarantine for at least another week:
And a few more from better days, with an emphasis on the food fare, the one thing that those on the ship can still enjoy even though it is reportedly now being delivered to their confined rooms in limited and less luxurious portions.
(It should be noted that another 10 passengers have now tested positive for the coronavirus and were also taken off the ship to nearby hospitals in Japan.)

I got in trouble for taking this photo. It turns out there's a sign about 12 feet tall as you enter the Sistine Chapel that says "NO PHOTOS!"
I don't know who on earth would be looking at the sign when the ceiling looks like this:
