FRIDAY METAL PORN! What's your favorite composition?

WeissWeiss Posts: 9,941 ✭✭✭✭✭

Couldn't resist another British sovereign this week. Pure gold is a nice yellow. But the gold we make gold eagles from (which has a small amount of silver in it) is a pale, cold color that I don't really care for.

"Crown Gold" is probably my favorite composition. It's 22K, or 91.67% pure with the balance copper. That's what Krugerrands and Sovereigns are made from. Gives the gold a sexy, warm orange glow and it's been proven durable over the centuries.

I love seeing gold down in the $1200 range. What did you get this week? What's your favorite gold or silver composition?

I agree, 22K or our classic 90% gold has a nice color!

    This is last Friday’s newp.
(It’s not bullion in this grade)
But it should be appreciated here.
Nothing new since this one last week...

Nice gold fellas! I picked up a $5 AGE at a great price. Didn’t snap a pic of it before putting it in the safe so I can’t participate in the porn this week.

Picked this up recently. It’s the composition I like! Traded it straight across with silver eagles based on the spot ratio. The dealers said the guys dad would bring home gold from Canadian fishing trips in the 70s-80s in the headliner of his car. I like that the flip is from the place he bought it from, by the looks of it.

Outstanding, @WildIdea! That is a beauty, eh?!

Thanks, I’m pretty stoked, we new it was a bit better, couldn’t decide what the premium should be so we just went with the swap. There was a lot of gold in the deal and my buddy was saying he was gonna have to ship most of it and was glad I could keep a piece around. This was the neatest bar of the group.

I have to say, I would have felt the purchase if I had to cough up the dough all at once, but I tend to buy a little silver here and there and it builds up. When I’m flush, I’m happy to part with it for something that doesn’t come around often.

Thanks, a little back story. Years ago, a guy I had met trading coins and I had been making friends and doing some deals. We have a lot in common. I had encouraged him to open up a B&M store of his own thinking he would be great at it. He credits me for giving him the encouragement, anyway, I had my thing going and he was prime to level up and he did. In the early years of his store he had asked me in to help finance some of the bigger bullion deals and I did for about a year until he grew enough to handle them on his own. We had some fun that year. Were still great friends and I often stop into his shop and sometimes buy things that he holds back that he knows I will like. I never expect him to give me a deal but sometimes I get a shot at something cool that still has a little meat on the bone.

So sometimes I refer to him as a dealer, which he is, or my buddy, which he is also and I’m somewhat lightly affiliated but technically not either. As both business owners, we have a lot of things to relate to and compare notes about. It’s just a great kind of friendship and I value it immensely. We just help and learn a lot from each other.

Excellent example of the difference between 14 k and pure gold.> @WildIdea said:
