Unsolicited email through registry set info "coin to upgrade your set for sale"

I just received an email from someone claiming to have an upgrade for my Washington Quarters set. Has anyone else had this happen?
What we've got here is failure to communicate.....

I have a long time ago. I told them that if we worked out a deal, they'd have to send it to me pre-payment since they were the ones that approached me. If I approached them with an interest in their coin, I'd expect to send them payment first. This is the only way to protect yourself from people with dishonorable intentions.
...we didn't strike a deal.

Yes, from our host.
This wasn’t from our host. This was a complete stranger.

It seems that by leaving your set open so that people can contact you is an invitation for unsolicited emails. At least that was what I hoped for when I was active in the registry.
I can agree with that. I just didn’t think it through to the point that those emails would include offers to sell me something. In a perfect world that would be good news. Today, I view those offers with a jaded eye.

I have done so in the past, but have not received any responses back.

Happened to me once. He offered to sell me coins that I already had in my set. Mine were 65s but they were nicer than his 66s, so I declined. Against my better judgement; I offered to buy a different coin from his set that I needed..... he never responded. It was very fishy.....

While I am not surprised that it happens, and could actually be good for the set... I would be very cautious when dealing like this. I would have to have reason for great trust... and would want the coin on approval. Cheers, RickO
Very rarely, but I have received one or two offers out of the blue to sell me upgrades to my registry sets or buy some of my coins. In one instance, I negotiated a deal to purchase of number of upgrades. It was a positive experience, the deal went smoothly and the coins are still in my set.

It is not very often, but yes I have gotten those emails too. I delete them immediately unless it is someone I actually know.

They have a way to remedy that problem.
Without mentioning a name, the emailer said he works with Julian Leidman. I responded that I’d need to see the coin on approval. I’ll keep everyone posted!
