1928 peace dollar question

1970s1970s Posts: 3,093 ✭✭✭✭✭

This coin is in an NGC MS 64 holder. Do you have any concerns with the coin ?
I'm thinking of buying it. 1k seems a little high, but I really like it

Seems like a lot of central area marks for the $$ and grade. The gash on her cheek and banging at base of bust would bother me if evaluating the coin. But --- photos make it a little tough to tell how prominent the defects are. Your decision, though.

Keep looking and don't be so generous. The 1928 peace Dollar is actually quite common. Wait until a nice coin with an equally nice price comes along.

The sellers image seems to be hiding the scuff in front of her chin. This is from NGC.

Has a nice look but I agree with the others, $1k is a little too much

The hit on the cheek isn't going away... it will be omnipresent when/if you ever go to sell.

Too much money for that coin... I would pass....I have been looking at a lot of Peace dollars lately, and while that is OK for the grade, I would look for better, and cheaper. Cheers, RickO

Definitely shop around for one cheaper!

'Ricko' white I like but the seemingly deep scratch on her cheek I rather not see ;)
I think you can do better for the price....be patience :)

Not for me. IMO, $700 max. Nice white coin though and not close to MS-65.

Have you seen it in hand and do you think it's a 3+? That's what they have it priced as.

When buying you should think like a dealer; however these coins have lots of surface area and I would rather have chatter any day than "ugly" issues like bad toning.

Tough call then... I would pass at that price without being able to actually see it. I've been burned by photos before as I'm sure many here have as well.

I'd want and expect a clean cheek for 1k.

The reverse is no prize either.

    I would keep looking.

Peace Dollars are not something I collect but I will offer an opinion: the current market for coins, especially mid-grade key date coins with a generic look like this is soft and getting softer. either wait for a nicer coin at $1,000, wait for this coin to drop by about $300 or, better yet, just wait.

the coin market as I see it from MyLoftyPerch is like a bad case of acne --- it's gonna get much worse before it gets better. we're in a buyers market so you should move carefully, be cautious and wield your power as a buyer.

Yes $225 is too much. So many 63's are selling for under $150 right now. Terrible market on these.

I blame Weiss and his dang "near impossible" NGC 1921 Peace Dollar.
He even got ME looking at the common things. :D

    I don’t think the 1928 would cross into a PCGS 64 holder.

    Nice catch..

I get nervous at side shots like these since they are usually glamour shots. Unless there's are two solid head-on photos mixed in.
