Mexico 50 pesos gold set 16 coins

A friend has a complete set of 50 pesos gold coins. They all appear to be UNC. Would it be worthwhile to have them graded? I've checked prices and MS 63 and up are bringing $200-300 more than ungraded. Thanks

Nice set. Impressive as is. You don't see this as a set very often nowadays.

I would send the coins for slabbing - then nobody can give you a line of bull about authenticity. You might score something on the grades too.

What a nice display. There is an overdate in this series that would complete it. I would keep the set as is and order a single custom Capitol holder for the 1931/0 and spend the $150 + dollars you saved. Or, if you are rich, order a new holder including the overdate.

Beautiful gold and that presentation (or the custom one @BillDugan1959 suggests) sure beats looking at a box of slabs.

I like to keep complete sets together when they are all about the same grade. Nice set thanks for sharing.

Is the plan to sell it in the short term? If yes - get them graded. If not - i'd keep them where they are.

    Thank you for sharing!

They're BRINGING $200-300 more, or people are ASKING for $200-300 more?

I think people are asking for more .

Unless a M 65 and other than the 31/0 and maybe the 1921 they don't bring to much more than slightly above face value.

    Just 50 old-style (pre-1993) Mexican Pesos? Or 50 new-style (post1993) Mexican Pesos?

I think it's awesome the way it is.

Very nice coins. I have a couple of these.

A question, why did they place the 1923 coin upside down?

@bidask You stated that the coins are worth only "face" value, which is 50 Pesos (save the 1943 coin).

Because the 1943 coin has no denomination spelled out on it (no stated "face" value), it must be worthless?

To be clear I should have said 'gold melt' value rather than face value .

To keep the terminology/words on the same kind of level, you were looking for the phrase "intrinsic value".

And your thought was highly debatable even if you had said it correctly.

Some of these dates should bring a numismatic premium.

This is a fantastic set and not something that one sees very often nowadays.

I like these coins, nice and hefty! I agree with Twokopeki’s advice above.

Since we don't have a great view of the coins, 1921 and 1931. The rest of the coins in the 1920s would have to be evaluated individually. A few look quite nice. Some of the later ones look nice too, but might not bring too much over intrinsic value.

I think this set is awesome, large and awesome. That they mounted all those gold coins together is impressive. Peace Roy

If the friend is looking at selling, you start at around $24,000 and start moving up from there. $28,000 is maybe the top money and you might have to get the coins slabbed. You don't have to prove anything to us, or show anything to us, really. It's a nice bunch of coins.
