Metal Porn Friday. You bought the dip, didn't you?

I bought a few things online a week or two back, including this British crown.
Then a couple of days ago, I figured I should take advantage of the gold sale currently going on and found this 1912 gold Sovereign. They make a cute couple, don't they?
We are like children who look at print and see a serpent in the last letter but one, and a sword in the last.

I dipped my toe in the 90% pool at about 11.5
My general plan is to be dipping into the pool again soon. It's not so much the lower price levels, although there is that - it's simply time to add to the stack and rescue some more dollars from certain destruction.
It's like the first death star scene in Star Wars IV - there were billions of little dollar voices crying out, and then everything went silent. That's how I see a possible dollar scenario.
I knew it would happen.
Cute couple indeed. Nice insurance policy you have there. Better than an insurance bill with nothing to show.
I just bought a pre-33 gold coin, used my 500 e bucks, paid another 350 out of pocket, now I have a fresh 85 e bucks to start out the new quarter
My most recent purchase. Just some generic at the right price.

Cool !!!
The gold is from my refining. The silver is all new to me!
What do you refine?
My stuff is on its way here. 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2018 Maple Leafs and then 2018 Kookaburra(2), Libertad, and silver Eagle(2). Fill some albums and the extra ones are for my niece and nephew.
The gold I refine comes from jewelry type items I pick up. That and occasion lots of gold filled, takes a lot to make it worthwhile.
@Jinx86 ....I like that Hong Kong/Shanghai bar.... How much does that weigh? I have not seen one like that before... I would buy that one if I come across it... Cheers, RickO
I made my first order from provident. Idk why I've never used provident, I've always heard good things about them. I normally use apmex (a lot), simply bc they are the fastest out there(that I've seen). Btw, I am a newb here too. Awesome people here, they are very informative. They will be surprised when I show my pieces on here. I hope it they come in soon!
Weights vary for these, mine is just over 4ozt. They come up on eBay every now and the, recently for 400$. There is one listed for $1000 or so last I looked.
Wow... that is quite the premium.... I tend to like expensive things.. Cheers, RickO
The Hong Kong / Shanghai bar seems to be a fantasy piece made in the 1970s. See "Unusual World Coins" by Colin R. Bruce II. There are a few different bars in the series. I think this one closely matches X#B13.
The maker used a portrait of Queen Victoria similar to those found on Hong Kong dollars and fractional pieces of the 1866-1868 era (KM#10):
Even though the maker intentionally used an obsolete portrait of a ruler who died 70 years earlier, the guide books seem to indicate the bars are good silver (though perhaps closer to .925 sterling rather than 999.9). So I don't know that I'd jump to the conclusion that these bars were made to deceive. I'd be comfortable calling them "tribute" pieces or maybe "commemorative" pieces. If the Victoria design was used around 1870, and the guide books say these are from around 1970, perhaps the 100 year anniversary of that era is what is being represented? I'd definitely pick one up if I could get it at a small premium and if I could test it ahead of time. Neat piece that's older than many of the collectible bullion bars.

Thanks for the background information.... and I notice the V(crown)R is oriented the opposite way in your example... Plus the devices appear raised as opposed to incuse on the example posted earlier. Cheers, RickO
i prefer provident, last order from them was real quick for paying with an old fashioned paper check, apmex prices always seem too high to me
I use apmex a ton. They are super fast but not always the best prices. But, to be fair, I've never had a single "hiccup" with apmex. Every time and every order was spot on. This is my first purchase with provident and I have not received my order yet but it's only been a few days. They just now shipped(understandingly being my 1st order). I think I will use them again!
