A lot of beautiful coins here. Every time I see that 20 D that @robec has I can't stop looking. Really well developed color and clean fields. AWESOME!

Although I am partial to Brown Lincolns, I also have bought and sold quite a bit of Mexican and Canadian and British coins over the years. This is a particularly memorable 1911 Canada large cent, the "Godless' variety (lacking D.G. for DEI GRATIA "By the Grace of God" on the obverse), in the spectacular grade of MS67BN PCGS. I couldn't believe my eyes when I had the chance to buy it. It was the finest of the entire type as well as the date, and I kept it for a while before I consigned it to Heritage where it did quite well. Beautiful brown coin with glints of olive and glorious luster!

    Kind regards,

    George

Thank you WildIdea for the perspective, and giving back to the community.
I personally have not owned any 65 coppers red or brown, but I did find your commentary intriguing and heartfelt. I feel like I have a new appreciation for these coins, which as the images posted to this thread show, are really something! Congrats on 1000 and good luck in your hunt for these "brown beauties"

It's all about what the people want...

    a 65 (the large cent) and a 66!

I absolutely love that deep blue! They often tone in blues but yours is probably the best I’ve seen in that realm.

Wow! Love the additions folks. If you want to keep this going, I’ll prob add a few more prizes to the drawings as the pool gets larger....

I made a little time to pull a favorite out and take a few quick iPhone shots. I apologize, it’s onlt a 6+. Lol

This German medal has me captivated. It’s about the size of a US silver dollar and is a Bismarck tribute. What I like about it the most is the attractive portrait design piled high with a strong frost, contrasted with a mirror polished field. A sword is always cool, and the vines that wrap around it are pretty neat! The hue of brown is rather even and has a wash of blue, magenta, and purple. Just about everything I’m looking for in a copper piece, minus the original box.

A few shots to show the piece and I added a few just so the contrast shows off better.

Thanks again everyone for taking the time to make this thread great!

@yKnot, your new 13 S has that strike that doesn’t come around that often. I hate to call it a sandy texture in the fields because it’s so much neater than that word and although similar, I hate to call it matte because it’s no use confusing those textures but it’s def an attractive texture. Not really a die erosion but more of an early die state? Thoughts anyone?

The 1914 in my set has a similar textur. No True View, just the best I could do with my home set up.

I don't know the correct answer but I would love to find out as well, if anyone knows. I always thought it was a result of early die state and the orange peel look (which can look cool too) on business strikes were the result from die erosion (pitted dies).

That's a really nice 1914. Love the beard, hair, and bowtie detail, and the pebble like surfaces!

I like brown coins. Most of the time they look better than red brown coins. Possible purchase, if I win powerball tonight.

Old copper is suppose to be brown. red copper is for amateurs (AFAIC).

Nice coins everyone, this is a thread that could go on forever and I wouldn't mind a bit.

    Okay here goes ...

I like copper coins that are graded MS-65 or 66, Brown because they are attractive and they are stable. I think that mint luster showing up from brown surfaces is very attrative. I also like the idea that the surface is "set," and that you don't have be concerned about the coin "going bad" as long you store it properly.

    Now for some coins:

1817 Cent, MS-66, Brown. I know it looks sort of R&B, but it says brown on the holder.

    1851 Cent MS-65, Brown

    1852 Cent MS-65, Brown

I don't know if this counts. 1896 Cent, PR-65, Brown

@BillJones , thanks for posting the nice coins. I think the proof counts for sure! I like 65 or higher BN on all copper coins, tokens and medals.

The 1817 got my attention! Superb!

It’s not that there isn’t some love in my heart for RB and RD, there is, I’m basically saying that when original shade mellows or blooms into interesting colors, it’ can sometimes get better, not worse. At least for me.
