When I came across this Morgan Dollar in the rattler holder on GreatCollections a few weeks back, I had to do a double take on it. It was listed as an 1889 as that is what the label says. When I clicked on the image to enlarge it, I thought I had somehow misread the label. The coin in the holder is an 1898, yet the label states 1889.
I knew right away that I wanted it. I figured the bidding would soon rise way above what I wanted to pay for it. I was pleasantly surprised on auction day that it did not seem to garner much interest. I actually paid less than what I was willing to bid up to. I just could not resist owning a rattler holder with a label error. I was surprised that after all these years, it was never sent in to be corrected. So, now it shall remain in my collection and won't be fixed while I own it. 
Has anyone seen any other rattler holders with "mechanical errors"? I would love to see any others. Post them here if you have any, or any other older holders with mechanical errors.

transposition error. Glad your happy with it. In today's day if someone did that they would be reworking probable hundreds.

I figured it was a simple transposition error. It would not be too difficult for someone in data entry to type out 1889 instead of 1898. Both are common date and valued at around the same amount, which is probably why it was never sent back in for correction. But, I'm glad it never did, as I would not have an interesting piece to add to my collection.
Nice coin for the grade. I've seen GSA CC's in 64 holders with more cheek scratch than your '98.

Now that would have been nice!! In fact any mint mark on an 1889 would have been nice at the grade and price level I paid. LOL

I have a nice '35-S San Diego which the insert lists as '36-D. Pcgs MS67 w/CAC. Does this happen often?

Label errors do happen from time to time...Though I have not heard of people collecting them before... That would be a unique concept for a registry set...

It certainly happens frequently enough. However, this is the first error rattler I have seen. I'm sure they happened as often as they do now, just most of them were corrected.
I think there may be some people out there who do collect error labels. I don't collect them per se, as this is the only one I own. What caught my interest is the fact that it is a rattler and it's the first I've seen. So it simply added an interest factor to me.

I once had a rattler with an (obviously) dead small spider that was in the "clear space" between the coin and the "bumpy" part of the holder.
(Sorry for my terminology...not sure what the parts of a rattler are called.)
I sold it in a hurry though, and wish I would have kept it as a curiosity.
I can't remember what the coin was though.
It may be imaged however in the Peter Parker Registry.
It’s so funny you said that... This holder actually has a small dead spider in it. It’s between the out shell and the inner holder with the Morgan. In the images above, you can actually just see it over the neck. It’s a slightly off colored brown spot.
I spotted it when I first got it in hand while trying to VAM the coin. It’s perfectly preserved. I’ll image it when I get home. Were you able to spot it? Which lead to your post? If not that was incredibly coincidental. Lol
If I saw it, my conscious mind did not realize it.
