Provenance beyond Eliasberg, Norweb and Pittman.

bidaskbidask Posts: 13,865 ✭✭✭✭✭

A thread on the light side got me thinking as to names that PCGS and NGC recognize as a pedigrees on the
darkside .

I can think of Lissner and Millennia collections.

Your thoughts?

    William Jacob Collection
    Rockaway Collection

    There's some Doaktown pieces.

They did not recognize the Jerry Remick collection of British Territories - this collection was sold raw in London.

Coinsweekly has something like it. But I think we mean one that includes historically important individuals too.

There must be well over a thousand names that have been or would be recognized by PCGS.

I don't know if any have received the Remick designation, but I think they would do it if it was certain that the coin came from his collection. Many of his coins were auctioned in bulk lots and not imaged in the catalog, so proving the provenance might be tricky.

Andy - you represented me for the 1880 NFL $2 gold at Spinks. I sent it in for grading and requested the Remick pedigree, even included the original holder from Spinks and a copy of the catalog page/photo. Came back w/o pedigree or explanation why.

Did you ask PCGS about this? They have been known to make mistakes on rare occasions.

I did before I sent it in. CS told me to include all the documents I sent. When it came w/o the pedigree, I figured they didn't recognize Remick.

Gene, I am pretty sure they do, I'm almost certain I've seen a couple around, on a search, I could only find one from a Newfoundland piece:

    Date, mintmark 1880
    Denomination 1C
    Variety Oval 0
    Country Newfoundland
    Grade XF40BN
    Pedigree Ex. Jerry Remick Coll.
