It's been pointed out to me that I can't call it "Cherry Picking" if I have no clue what it is that I bought and the seller didn't recognize it. So we need a new term...
Stupid Blind Dumb Luck is already taken.
I like "Blind Squirel pick" as in "Even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut".,.

Well -- you could borrow "Dead Cat Bounce" from the stock markets...?
All true up top but best to know what it is you are picking so you can make sure you are doing okay, What is doing okay doing okay is not over paying for it, so if he comes back with a price that's is more you know if you can go up or not..
Let say you find a coin with a DDO let say a MS65-RD 1970-S and you see that it is a DDO and it's a nice coin let's say it's price at $65 now you know it's a DDO you tell him I'll take this one he says that's a old price now do you walk or buy it? this is the time most will say that to much and walk if they don't know now if you don't know you may walk but if you do know you will pay up even up to $500 for it if not more but all he wants is $75. so this is why you need to or should try to know what you are picking because that coin is worth $5k to $8k and if you don't know that you may have walked because you did not know. Books are good just buy one and look at it 2 or 3 times a day the rest will come to you... Have fun and keep on posting.
IT's a pick you did not pay full price for it so it's a pick maybe not a big one but a pick.

In the past on this forum, anyone who scores a fantastic deal, blind luck or by Cherry pick, would be given a "You Suck" by other members when you scored great buy unbeknownst to the seller.

One example of a serendipitous pick that comes to mind is many years ago at a local flea market I visited a coin dealer who set up there every week. He had a very nice raw Liberty gold half eagle in a high AU grade that he wanted close to melt value for. When I got it home and had a chance to closely examine it, I discovered that it was the 1901/0 overdate variety. I got it slabbed by ANACS when they were still using the small sized slab and it graded AU-58.

I call them my "Holey fecal matter" finds...I have not had many, and the last one was a D/S Buff that upon closer examination, turned out to be the D/D/D/S coin... I was numismatically orgasmic....

I feel that I can tell a story about walking around the bourse cherrypicking, and everyone knows what I mean, so it's an accepted term on the forum. But if I tell them I was walking around at a show You Sucking, or bouncing dead cats, I fear they might misunderstand. So let's keep the cherrypicking term around, IMHO
