M/V MAHI invitation a fair trade for 2006 Re-strike Bronze Libertas Medal ? Happy 4th of July

Have you ever trade a coin for an activity ?
M/V Mahi 1943 - 1982 formerly USS Scrimmage 50m / 165 ft 800 ton WW II Navy Cable layer (mine sweeper) down 95feet an underwater habitat, West Oahu
Beautifully sitting upright...when I saw her one early summer morning 15 yrs ago.....
...in awe making a full circle down the hull
My diving pals extended an invitation to revisit her this coming 4th of July.
The skipper then asked if I can trade my bronze Libertas Americanas re-strike for a fun trade (he collects bronze medals)
My hesitation is not cost related ....
I never trade for a favor before nor I have plan to break the pair but....
The leeward fishing & diving community is very close knitted......
....so it's impossible to go undetected; diving the site next time or anytime
I am hearing the call
GO and offer the rain check?

The Libertas is pretty nice and fits with its brothers and sisters. Depending on what medal he wants to trade and how well you like it, you could get another same Libertas to trade and keep your set together.
the pair...

They are like twins. Tough to break up. A beautiful pair.
Aloha nui loa !!!
Nice !!
Don't break them up!
If this pair belongs to your personal collection, you should keep them together IMO
Can’t help to see that stingray could fly, in the water of course.
The 2005/2006 restrikes were issued on an open basis, with no mintage limit. The silver restrikes had a higher issue price, but the bronze restrikes were quite inexpensive at the time of issue. I am certain there is a significant number of them out there, to replace the one you currently have. (There's one on eBay ending today.) The experience of the offered diving excursion...only you can determine whether you would have that opportunity again if you pass this one up!
You seem to have a slight bit of hesitation to make the trade.
It's a unique trade offer to be sure.
Hope you are happy whatever way you decide to go.
Just buy anther give it to him and go for it.
Hoard the keys.
It was a free dive then and always been since I have the the deep circle in the water world so parting is the part of hesitation since he would not take any monetary gift.
Thank you for the link @cardinal.....this will take care of it
Cardinal or others, are any final mintage figures available? TIA!
The bronze cost 49.95 plus $5 shipping, I don't know about the silver.
Correct! The silver cost $119.95 plus shipping.
shack I missed it @cardinal....winning bid's $240...good to see the commanding price though
Years from now the dive will be a distant memory. The Libertas will still be around. Whether you own it or not is your decision. Can it be replaced? At what cost? How important is the dive vs the Libertas? Your decisions. Sleep on it, then decide what's best for you. Hey, my 1000th post. Or not.
Do you know..... in 1982, Hurricane Iwa repositioned the ship **180 degrees ** ?

....so that she faces out to sea whereas she originally faced shoreward
This is the most current picture
Congrat on your 1K post @Smudge....been enjoying your company around here
You are right about the perspective of this whole thing........I am just not used to barter this way.
Fresh in my mind from 15 years ago....the feeling of seeing her when I looked down from the surface....it was a rope directed deep dive with tricky decompressions.
Take a flashlight. Or camera and show pix.
Sorry to hear you missed out on that one. That being said, it is common enough that you will have more opportunities to get another if you wish to.
I think that your Libertas medals to be of more significant value than a dive to a cable laying ship. I may be missing the significance of the ship, but your medals are very nice specimens.
OINK
Follow your intuition... Cheers, RickO
Tomorrow is the day. Have fun and BE CAREFUL.
This.
Memorable experiences trump memorable coins.
Enjoy the dive.
.....mooring down....a quick 30 minutes visit with 700 PSI left for 5 safety stops back to the surface
......patrolling the perimeter
