Very red. There are three normal copper spots on the ball side and another normal copper spot on the glove side under the 'I' of LIBERTY. Wonder if those will get redder over time?

The large red mark sure looks like a drop of something due to the splatter effect shape. Peace Roy

I never seen a red spot on a coin like that before.
I had a proof sheild nickel with a similar red spot. Otherwise it was blast white.
I always wondered if it was something from the slabbing process.
It looked like a spot of something that dripped on the coin.
Fast ball.
That's is really red.
.....not on an MS70 at least

I would try an acetone soak..... Looks like it 'could' be organic. Cheers, RickO

I had intended to put together a set of 2008-W Buffalos, but of the four examples, all 70s, two were returned because of the same problem.
Grease, especially lithium grease, comes in different colors. As the grease loses its quality it changes color. Perhaps this is what is used at the Mint?
