@Justacommeman 2017's thread on his gold 2oz entertained me on this very subject

Nice coin... hope you find a nice gold one.
Nice coins.
This is one of the most valuable for those who own them.....
Yes, these are tributes to history and quite lovely:
I understand there will be a 2oz and a 1oz gold version of the medal in the ANA auctions.
Just a depiction of how attitudes towards nudity in art can change over time.
Apparently a copy of David in England in the Victorian era had a cast fig leaf that could be attached to the statue, too.
OH I see it now....for being decent. Yes

Very nice...
Hoard the keys.
Sweet !!!
...his feet are smaller than hers...Nice Coin
That's not a coin. It's a medal. One of my pet peeves is when an otherwise knowledgeable numismatist who should know better calls a medal or token a coin. Rant over.

Nudity... such a strange taboo....we all have similar parts... I guess covering them up was to prevent comparisons...

They must have posed for that scene in the summer time. Peace Roy

Good catch! Now I know why....
With that lil thing I think he's gonna have to give her more than just a fruit basket, an anchor, a barrel, and two bails of hay to get any?
It must have been a real cold day!!
He looks like he's in the midst of explaining that he was in the pool
Very conventional allegorical design and composition. Mercury, messenger of the gods, offers commerce to the new world goddess, Columbia. She offers the bounty of a new land in response.
"Classical" figures such as gods and goddesses were often shown nude or semi-nude as are many biblical characters. Dupre was at the top of his skill at the time. It would be over a century before any American artist came close.
He was in the pool!

Based on the way he is standing, the cape, and the flamboyant headgear, I am not sure he wants anything she has to offer.

What are you meaning by this? This medal was issued not long ago and the same mint will likely strike them again, if not already since then.
I assumed she meant that such a medal would not be designed today. Restrikes are another matter....
I don't see any excitement on his part
....being designed....
