I Bought My First Coin from an Expelled ANA Member

In the spring of 1970 (as a 7-year old) I purchased a couple coins from the kiosk at the Yorktown Shopping Center in Lombard, IL.
It turns out this store was operated by Tom Ryan, who was expelled from the ANA. This was noted in the April, 1969 Numismatist, although no reason is given.
Anyone remember this store, or Tom Ryan?

I hope he did not rip you off that would look bad taking advantage of a 7 year old. Don't you go to you know where for that?
...too bad there wasn't eBay back in 1970...you would still qualify for a full refund and plus your off the hook for return shipping charges...nothing like a 48 year old SNAD
here is what i found: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2008-01-04/news/0801030934_1_big-band-mr-ryan-rare-coin-business
Yes I remember that store. They were in business for along time.
I was a frequent customer with Tom Ryan and his son at the Randhurst Mall in Mount Prospect, Illinois back between 1978 to 1985. I bought very top quality Morgans and Peace Dollars, including some stunning DMPL’s. They were always good to me with their Lay Away programs, and holding nice dollars for me. During that time I did equal business with Don and Karl at Archie’s Coins on Archer in Chicago.
I bought i first bag of uhhhhh stuff from a kid who was expelled from my high school. I was treated fairly and don’t suspect any doctoring
11.5$ Southern Dollars, The little “Big Easy” set
He certainly led an interesting life...No idea what got him expelled from ANA... Cheers, RickO
Long ago, being an ANA member and a dealer meant something -- ANA had a code of ethics and enforced it. Now, the only ANA ethics are $$ to buy more sand to stick the board's heads into.
