Fraudulent ebay account

derrybderryb Posts: 37,552 ✭✭✭✭✭

Notified by ebay that a purchase by ebay ID coande25 was fraudulent. Fortunately I shipped snail pace registered mail and was able to intercept and recover shipment.

Mailing address for the fraudster is:
427 S OLYMPIA ST
NEW ORLEANS, LA 70119

The victim target should file police report so that a referral to NO police can go check that address. If it is a mail drop, other crimes may be revealed and stopped. Peace Roy

I'm sure there is no reason to block that ID (but I did anyway) as ebay I'm sure pulled it for fraud. However, if you had not retrieved your item would you have been covered by ebay/Paypal? I presume you shipped to the address that's registered, right?

mailed her a picture of a gold coin. Don't know that this address is the actual fraudster. Crook may have initiated a forwarding to his address.

buy it now, immediate payment required. Appears credit card/Ebay account holder contacted ebay, I also received a message from the account holder that he did not make the purchase. Zero feedback buyer (lesson learned) have since changed by buyer restrictions to "must have a minimum of 5 feedback," the most restriction available.

Had to pay about $14 for usps package intercept. $1575 coin. Scary thing is that anyone with a tracking number, sender and receiver name/address and a usps.com account can intercept and re-direct a shipment. An ebay buyer (even a fraudulent one) has this info.

@derryb....Thanks for the reply... and the last part - bold print - is frightening....did not realize that. Cheers, RickO

Correctly marking a shipment with "RETURN SERVICE REQUESTED" prevents it from being forwarded. This is one step a seller can take to protect himself.

No coverage if tracking shows delivered. Yes addressed to registered address.

usps' "Package Intercept" while still in transit. Slow pace of registered mail can sometimes be a plus.

unfortunately we cannot choose our buyers. I have since, however, limited my sales to buyers with more than 5 feedback. This is the most restrictive option ebay allows buyers to choose in their "selling preferences."

Just refunding the purchase to a potentially high risk buyer still costs the seller FV fees unless the buyer agrees to send a request to cancel the sale.

My ebay account was hacked about a month ago. Some punk bought a $1k laptop using my paypal info without having to log into my paypal account directly then sent a ton of spam to my email account in an attempt to hide the legitimate ebay confirmation emails. I got FedEx to turn the shipment around before it arrived, and eventually the seller reversed the charge. I then killed both my ebay and paypal accounts. Frankly, if all one needs is access to someone's ebay account in order to suck money out of their bank or credit card via paypal, then I'm done with both of them.

And stupid ebay is still sending me watchlist notifications for the 'dead' account.

Just venting I suppose, but be careful out there, and wary if suddenly 200-300+ new spam messages suddenly show up in your email.
