That looks like a very good way to get the light even over the whole coin. I will have to try that. Great idea.

Not sure I'd call it "original way," since the technique of photographing the edge of a coin using a flashlight reflector has been around for a long time, but it does remind me that I accidentally stepped on my flashlight reflector a while back and need to get a new one.

    Flashlights are dirt cheap now.

Try to leave out the fingerprints though.

That technique will show details very well, but not do a good job on luster. Not entirely dissimilar than diffused lighting.

Neat idea & thanks for sharing...Mike

It is possible to convert the annular edge image to a straight "roll-out" image in Photoshop. I've used it in several books and articles.

Interesting. I'd call it, "Photographing the Third Side".

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

Yep... a good way to show the 'third side'....Although it has been demonstrated before on the forum, it is not often applied. Plus, we have many new members and those new to coin photography (or, like me, not really capable). Cheers, RickO

Hmm. I hadn't seen that before. I like it for the edge lettering for sure.
