New Regrade and Crossover Results

I recently submitted 8 coins to our host. All were submitted under the Regular Service. Six were regrades of OGH holder coins. Two were crossovers. All of these coins had been in my collection for many years. I selected them from a large group of coins in my collection. The results with any upgrades were of minimal benefit to me financially after considering the costs of the service.
Regrades:
1916 Quarter in OGH no change
1920 D Quarter in OGH no change
1919 D Quarter in OGH went from VF 25 to VF 30
1919 S Quarter in OGH went from VF 25 to VF 35
1923 S Quarter in OGH went from VF25 to VF 30
1901 P Morgan in OGH went from Au 53 to AU 55
Crossovers:
1903 O Morgan in NGC 63 crossed at the same grade
1918 S Penny in a small ANACS graded MS 64 RB did not cross. The coin is PQ but I think the difference of opinion involved
the issue of whether the coin was RB or now just Brown.
I do not know if PCGS is particularly tight right now.
Am I willing to try again? Nope
Does comparing images from other websites or EBAY of higher graded coins make me wonder what was going on? Yes and no, as images aren't enough without having the coin in hand.

Thank you for sharing your results. For those of us who do not know, what is the grade of your 1916 Quarter and is it a Barber or Standing Liberty? Did you opt for TrueView imaging?

It is a Standing Liberty Quarter with a lot of crust that has a 4 digit date with some very slight weakness. This one does not take imagination or a look at diagnostics to tell it is a 1916. It remains a VG 8. No TrueView imaging. It is part of my Mightyhunter Registry Set. I purchased it about 25 years ago from Howard Frydman. mh
Overall, not bad results....and at those grades, one would not expect huge jumps... Cheers, RickO
Thanks for sharing your results. Did you send the coins to CAC before you did the re-grade? What made you choose "regrade" over "reconsideration? I would have wanted to keep those in OGH if possible if I didn't think there was a very strong chance that the coins would upgrade.
For those that don't know the difference between regrade and reconsideration:
REGRADE: For a coin previously graded by PCGS you feel might be worthy of a higher grade, submit it in the holder. The coin will be removed from the PCGS holder and regraded. Minimum grades are not accepted. If the coin grades lower, the terms of the PCGS guarantee will apply. For full discloser of the PCGS guarantee, visit PCGS.com/Guarantee.
RECONSIDERATION: Use the Reconsideration service if you would like to have your coin regraded without being removed from its current PCGS holder. Minimum grades are not accepted. Select one of the following four options for Reconsideration service. Only one option is allowed per submission form:
1.Upgrade by Full Numeric Grade (default) – If your coin’s grade is determined to improve by one numeric point or more (i.e. 63 to 64 or 63+ to 64).
2.Upgrade by Plus ONLY – If your coin’s grade is determined to improve by a Plus grade (i.e. 58 to 58+).
3.Upgrade by Suffix – If your coin’s designation is determined to improve by suffix, even if the coin’s grade does not
improve (i.e. – PL to DMPL, CA to DC, BN to RB).
4.Any – Will accept options 1, 2 or 3. Coins that upgrade will be removed from the current holder, given the new grade and/or suffix, and placed in a new holder. The PCGS certification number will remain the same whether the coin upgrades or not.
No CAC for me on any of my coins. I was certainly familiar with the regrade and reconsideration choice that I had. On the reconsideration issue, I am not particularly impressed with the idea that PCGS collects a percentage because they didn't get it right the first time. Frankly, I thought and still think all of them should upgrade. If the 1916 Quarter in VG8 is accurately graded, it is nicer than any other in that grade or VG10-F12 that I have ever seen. Most of the VG8 1916 P Quarters I have seen look like a gift to me (cleaned, partial date, etc.) . The 1920 D that stayed XF 40 has close to full breast mail detail, all the feather detail in the reverse wings, luster and only a touch of wear on Liberty's knee. I would likely buy any SLQ I could find that looks like this in a PCGS XF40 holder.
The 1919-d, 1919-s and 1923-s were all sequentially submitted together raw at least 22+ years ago. They all came back the first time at VF 25. What are the odds of that happening if someone had really looked at the coins the first time? A few years ago, I sent in a OGH PCGS graded 1927 S quarter graded VF30. I sent it in under some PCGS freebie using the secure service they were just marketing. It came back XF 40. I have an OGH graded 1923P quarter graded AU 50. If submitted again it would go 55 and likely 58. It is not worth the money to do this. Mistakes are made and everyone has an opinion. You make your choices and take your chances. Just my two cents. mh
Some nice jumps in the VF coins, congrats
