The penny is mine and I found the nickel pic on error-ref website. Who cancels a penny? The mint? Was the die Canceled or the actual coin? I am not understanding what has happened here

Your cent was damaged after it left the mint.
If I'm not mistaken that is a tire track on the cent. Probably from that mouse that wears half a ping pong ball on his head as a helmet
I saw it's pretty unique. You should send to PCGS and get it graded.

Cool !!!
Someone used it as a soft jaw in a vice or clamp. I would bet money on it.

Coins are cancelled because of production run problems
Coins are cancelled to this day. The cancellation is now a waffling machine. Some waffled coins have escaped.

PMD.
The error nickel was struck over a cancelled Indian coin. Your cent is just PMD.
Thank you all for your input.
Tough crowd huh?
You took that well instead of arguing like some of the newbies. Gotta admire that.
Your coin is showing PMD... likely from being used in a vise (the reverse shows the vise teeth) and the 'twist' mark on the obverse is the result of whatever part the individual was working on that required protection from the vise. Cheers, RickO
just damage, value:

Yes, it was used as a cheap sacrifice.
