I finished my (PCGS Modified) 7070 (no gold) for a second time...what was the final coin added?

BLUF: What was my final slot to fill on my 7070?
The 7070 is an act of love for me due to the different types of coins, but it does grow old after a while and has to be rekindled to bring back the passion. Older pieces are sold/traded for others and some of them stand the test of time and remain within the collection. Just about anyone who has put together a set, has been stymied by one particular coin slot that is difficult to fill. My last slot to fill was not a hard one to fill, but has been overlooked by other more prominent designs. Another aspect for taking so long to fill is that when you working on an Everyman Set (19th Century portion of my 7070), the collector's availability of coins sometimes withers and being choosy not only for grade but eye appeal can take some time. My 20th Century portion would all be MS in this 7070. Would you care to guess what was my final slot to fill? ...and what is slot/hole is holding your collection from being complete?

Thank you for your interest and comments!

I have loved the 7070 so much that I have done it 3-4 times . . .and always seem to have a 7070 project next to my desk just in case I run into a coin that MUST be involved in that album.

In almost every case I have ever seen, the Classic Head Large Cent in a true grade and without problems seems to be the last acquisition for almost every 7070 devotee' . . . but I am sensing something different here. Obviously, in an 'Everyman's Set' this coin is hugely expensive . . . so if this is a true Everyman's. .and matches . . . that Classic is going to be a killer piece!

    But I bet it is smoething else . . . . . . . in an Everyman's, perhaps a Lincoln Memorial, JeffNick, or the like ???

    Always good to hear about the 7070s . . . .

I can't comment on the 7070 set because I don't know what goes in it.

For my own sets, the 1837-8 No Stars Dime in AU gave me trouble 25+ years ago. When I was finishing my complete gold type set the 1796 No Stars Quarter Eagle gave me trouble. There is no surprise there. Most recently the 1839-C and 1838-P Quarter Eagles in Choice AU to low end Unc. were quite a challenge.

For major type set, which excludes some "impossible" coins like the Chain Cent and 1796 Quarter, I could see where the Classic Head Cent, with no problems, would be big hurdle.

Excellent point on dividing up the 7070 @drunner and I should clarify that only the 19th Century portion is an Everyman configuration, the 20th Century portion is MS. The OP has been edited to clarify my 7070 19th & 20th Century criteria.

A very popular stumbling block would be the Classic Head Large Cent, it was close to being last, but not the last slot to be filled.

@BillJones those 18th Century pieces would indeed be super hard holes to fill. My set does not include any in the 18th Century.

First off, congrats on finishing the modified 7070 type set for a second time. I just started and only have 9 pieces on my type set so I have a long way to go. I just noticed your modification, so I'm not sure which coin was your last to fill in.

I'll say or guess the no stars Seated Dime. Where are the 7070 type sets anyway....I can't find them in the Registry.

I made them private until after the disclosure of the coin.

No, I sold my No Stars Half Dime and Dime to pick up some other slots to fill.

I return to the thread . . not sure if I can add substantially to content . . .

The 7070 is a unique point of history, and an album that has become iconic in the annals of numismatics. Whether or not we regard marketing and social popularity to establish some traction . . . . the 7070 has become something that we here on the Boards, or others somewhat distanced . . . . regard as a collecting challenge and accomplishment when completed.

Surely . . . our specialists and well- recognized devotee's of other more classical series may scoff at the 7070 . . . but let's applaud those who like the aspect of "Type" and want to spend hard-earned funds, and many hours of bourse exploration in honor of that one or two vacant holes . . . . . . in the 7070.

    Bravo to you all . . . .

oih82w8...I would guess the very first coin. Draped bust half cent. On my second one and my goodness how much harder now than the last one, which took me 7 years or so. Don't know that I will be able to finish this one or not.
