A First for me (USPS delivery on a Sunday)

I'm pushing Sixty, and have been purchasing coins by mail since 1974 or 1975. As a disclosure, I am mostly a fan of our Postal Service. I usually do best with them, compared to Brown or FedEx.
I was expecting a coin package on Monday (or Tuesday at the latest). Today (Sunday) at about five minutes until Noon, the doorbell rang. I was still drinking my A.M. Coffee, but I looked through the peephole. It looked like a Mailman!
So I opened the door and received the coin package expected for Monday! I signed for it on an electronic device. The Mailman did have on a MOL regulation summer uniform, or it might have been hard to believe! He said 'Probably an Amazon Package'. It wasn't, but I thanked him very much.
I would think that this has happened to others here, but I have not heard it mentioned. First time I have ever had a USPS delivery on Sunday!

Amazon has them working 7 days a week.
I had that happen a few weeks ago. It also was a non-Amazon package.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Same happened here two weeks ago. Mailman left a sig. confirmation Priority box in my mailbox. Happened to check Sunday evening and tracking showed delivery at 12 noon. Went to the mailbox about 6 pm and it was there.
I had them deliver in there private car, with no uniform.
I had an important letter delivered on Sunday about two weeks ago. I thought that to be weird.
Well, I found it very helpful that the young fellow was in Uniform and had the electronic device that I was used to. Didn't see what he was driving. He was not the regular Mailman on this route.
Seem to recall getting something on a Sunday within the last couple of years.....
Wonder if they have a crew come in Sunday's to meet the "mandatory" delivery deadlines on SOME packages...."And since you're here, and we're paying you, you may as well deliver these too...."
I think amazon is taking advantage of the USPS. They know they desperately need the revenue.

USPS began delivering packages only on Sunday some time ago.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
This is only one of the many reasons that they are losing so much money.
I've noticed it for a while now. As a matter of fact I just brought in a package for my daughter not 5 minutes ago. It was delivered at 5:22PM on a Sunday afternoon.

I have something in common with the op too; I was shipping some coins to a grading service and they showed as delivered in the po box today.
This is the first time I've heard of this happening! Good to hear.
Postal guys are out and about on Sunday in Pa. Our neighbor got something from Amazon. Peace Roy

No it isn't. The biggest reason is the forced retiree funding for 75 years into the future. No one else, neither private firms nor government entities, has to do such a thing.
Sunday delivery is an Amazon arrangement. Perhaps the USPS is being efficient in delivering other mail along the way. That would be refreshing.
Pony Express?
I have had Sunday USPS deliveries during the holiday season...have not seen it recently. I wonder if the people get double time or they have a weekend shift....Cheers, RickO
UPS ~99% satisfaction. Always on time, very good tracking system, good customer services.
USPS ~80% satisfaction, often delayed delivery, tracking is only okay (sometimes) and I've had some lost mail incidents and have dealt with some rude employees.
FedEx, maybe 50% satisfaction at best. Often delayed or damaged boxes, tacking system is poor, can't find locations, etc.
There are a few locals (state only) delivery companies that do pretty good but I don't see or use them them often.
I have never received a package on Sunday.

But then again I have a PO BOX.
Always nice to get a box early.

Well, the trick on some items is being here at delivery time, or having someone here to sign for pricier items. If you miss the Mailman, it can be a real chore chasing down a package.
I never worried about that on Sunday morning before (I never checked USPS tracking on Sunday AM). Now, maybe I will have to do that occasionally.
With my schedule, if I get a notice that I missed something it can be a real hassle for me!

Express Mail packages via USPS are supposed to be delivered in a one or two day time frame, with deliveries on Sundays and Holidays. Always been that way.
And I've gotten Sunday deliveries around Christmastime.
Now about 50% of my Amazon orders now get delivered on Sundays, via a private courier. (Not USPS.)
@Backroadjunkie This package was just/simply USPS priority mail with tracking.
I don't believe that I've had an USPS express mail package in at least five years. If those are delivered in a significantly different fashion, it might be good to know what happens then.
i see the usps out every once in a while on a sunday. nothing wrong with that
Yeah, I wasn't specifically addressing your package delivery, just a general statement saying Sunday (and Holiday) deliveries have always been made. If you pay for it.
Did find this article about general Sunday deliveries from late last year, though...
USPS hopes for more Sunday package deliveries
Although this is now SOP for the USPS due to increased package volume, it's not the first time. The Post Office I worked for scheduled me on Christmas day back in the 1970's .
I was told to look through parcels and pull out all the obvious "gift looking" ones and deliver them. I thought it was a wonderful gesture! I really enjoyed doing it.
Sadly it was the only time it was ever done at our office.

I do slightly better on the USPS than you have below.
For FedEx....I had some issues with them late last year (before Christmas rush though) and found out a few things....
FedEx home is contracted out. It's like someone bids for the contract. Not a fedex employee. That's what they told me at the main number.
Also, they don't use GPS devices. Honest. They told me they still use the maps like Thomas Guide, Rand McNally, whatever. They use actual paper maps if they don't know your house/area.
And, they have that "smartpost", which is one of the stupidest things, as a receiver, I have seen. I have watched a package get to my area a few days ahead of schedule and THEY KEPT IT THERE until the day it was supposed to come in (well, the day they were supposed to get it to USPS to deliver to me). It was like 3 days sitting just 20 minutes from me. And, they won't let you get it early. Idiots.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
