Anyone guess why this 1893 LVI Proof Crown went for so much?

I mean it is nice .
But a PCGS Proof 67 went unsold at Heritage summer ANA last year.
In the last 10 years they have averaged 3800 to 7000 range for Proof 65/66.

Nearly $20k for an attractive, nicely toned NGC 66. That's quite a premium beyond the 2018 Spink price of £3250 (about $4350) for an FDC example. I wouldn't go for it at anything close to that price. That's putting it in league with Gothic Crowns.
The last two examples before that from Heritage in the same grade (both PCGS) brought $8225 and $7931 all in. $20K is pretty much nosebleed territory.

Kind regards,

Yes, I agree. I find this ridiculous. I have a 64DC that if the two were removed from cases would challenge viewer to find the difference - obtained for about 1k, 8 years ago. If these coins can reach prices like this, I think it will force a lot more coins out into the market, or specifically Heritage!
Well, just Love coins, period.
Someone fell in love it seems.
She is pretty.
