Barber Half Experts...Can You Help?

UMCaneUMCane Posts: 213 ✭✭✭

Just about done with the Basic US Type Set and recently added this Barber Half...graded MS64 by PCGS.
1906 S.
Looking at the key wear areas, this looks pretty darn good for a 64. That is what attracted me to the coin. Is this worth re-submitting?

Thanks Much...

Not an expert, but if not for the cheek, maybe so. The cheek has marks that make me feel that it is accurately graded.

Hang onto it for 20 years. It'll be a 66+ in plastic that demands a premium. I think it's better than a 64 tbh.

Smudge...I see your points. The chin and cheek also continue the same mark vertically. The wear points of hairline, ear lobe, center tail faeather, wingtip all look complete. Seems reasonable to spend some money and apply for a bump. I might catch a grader on a good day. I feel this is one of the better S mint strikes I've seen for the series.

The chatter on the chin and above the eye bother me the most - although they are light. I have seen 65's that look worse. Overall, a very nice coin.... might be worth a gamble. Cheers, RickO

@UMCane, I am not saying no way and for $1000 it may be worth a shot. Are you a gambler? Could go down, but I doubt that. I think it it is a good 64.

I looked over a handful of 64s and 65s on Coinfacts and 4 of 5 of the 65s had no noise on the face. I looked at one and said..... Really?
64s that were struck equally as well had some of that scuffing that was generally heavier. So it's a darn good 64 or lousy 65.
What the heck, there are only 12 PCGS 65s out there. Maybe the world needs one more B)

    Much obliged.
