Counterfeit die usage......interesting......
Here is an UNC 1885cc that was recently sold on ebay that is a Chinese counterfeit. (seller knew but did not disclose). Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1885-CC-1-MORGAN-SILVER-DOLLAR-CARSON-CITY-MINT/123155957070?hash=item1cacaac54e:g:JckAAOSw-W9bCZwi
and here is the seller's reverse pic with the hit on the eagle's breast circled:
Now here is another listing up on ebay for three fake CC dollars, link here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/223011746646?ViewItem=&item=223011746646
And here is seller's reverse pics and note the same hit on all three and they match up with the above UNC example. It appears that this fake die was used to it's death and that perhaps ten's of thousands of fake CC's have this reverse.

Does make one wonder how many are out there....
Even in the 1900s dies could be used for 200K strikes. That was eyeballing the die color to harden it....

You just made me a little more vigilant to this die strike. Thanks
Yikes !!!
Excellent die marker to spot the fakes.

Thanks for the information.... My 1885 CC's came in GSA boxes, so I would think they are OK... but I know I will check (slight paranoia
)....Neat PUP, I will certainly watch for it when scanning CC's for sale. Cheers, RickO
