Then I did some research. I guess I won't be getting a British Columbia $20 gold.

It is very rare. A pattern.
If you can google it, Heritage Auctions has a good xplaination.
That’s a big boy coin, eh?
Latin American Collection

Nice !!!
Darn, was hoping to pick up an example whence I am in Vancouver week after next.
these come up the odd time in auction lots.
Probably your best bet to get , or to see one, is J&M in Vancouver.
Call ahead , ask for Joe Orio (owner and decision maker if you can see it if he has one) .
he is the same fellow who got robbed in Toronto some months back.
Public transit takes you from YVR very close to his rather large shop in about 20 minutes.

What prices are we talking about for a coin like this? $20,000, $100,000 or more?
PCGS' closest competitor says $38,500 and cites the sale of the Norweb specimen in 1996 at almost $26,000. This price 'quote' was for a 60 to 63 specimen. The Heritage website shows a more recent specimen that went unsold (apparently).
