What are the lines called?

Inside the devices you can see lines . What are they and what causes them ? Thanx

    Scratches? Caused by whatever causes objects, in this case a coin, to get scratched?

    It's called post mint damage.

    The indentations in the date are caused by circulation damage... the coin did not come from the mint in that condition. Cheers, RickO

    He may be talking about "flow lines" which are caused by die erosion when a die has been used for awhile and look like lines that are radiating out from the center..

    Are you talking about the ghosting around the numbers in the date? Machine doubling or more likely die fatigue. This sort of effect is common on zinc cents and sometimes other coins.
