Grade my first Walker Half? 1936 P

Picked this up and thought it looked fantastic. I am not sure what it would grade as but am sure it is MS something. I did pay up at $40 so I hope it's good! Any thoughts and advice is greatly appreciated as always.

It looks mint state, but the mark under "STATES OF" on the reverse might be called either a scratch or counting wheel damage. At $40 I think you paid just around MS60 +/- for the coin.

I think it is a high end AU that has been cleaned.
It has unc. details but has certainly been fooled with. There is some luster remaining and at $40 you couldn’t go wrong.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

I do think it would grade. MS for sure.

I had in mind to post pretty much the same thing Walkerfan did....
I do not see any high point wear, but the luster doesn't look right.
However, it could also be the photography and/or lighting source that makes
the luster look flat and the surfaces a tad grainy.
As for advice, not sure what you are seeking, but if you are thinking about submitting it,
I would let some other experienced collectors or dealers look at it in hand and see what they think.
Alright well dang, I'll just use it to trade I suppose.
Always look for wear on her skirt, from left leg down. Another important thing is the detail of her hand and the flag. Then of course you want to be mindful of her head and sandals etc.
Then check the lettering. Does it interfere with the design? Are they damaged, or have mechanical doubling? How do the designer initials and mint mark look? Mind you, mechanical doubling won't affect grade, but eye appeal.
The tells on the reverse would be eagles feathers. Anything but perfect with some chatter (not quite dings) won't knock it out of MS. Of course the cactus and the Eagles talons, eyes, head.
You seem to be getting closer. Not a bad buy for $40. I'd say it's anywhere from AU55 to 58. There's some nice design there, and plenty left. If it weren't for the cleaning it might very well have gotten a 60. It probably looked better dirty anyway.
The luster seems to still be there. Not to be confused with the imprint of the reverse design, like the last image which appears most lustrous at a glance but is just reflective from uneven surfaces.
Despite being cleaned, it's got a very nice and sharp reverse. It'd look good in a circulated album face down. A good side by side visual aid.
This is an MS63 oozing with luster. It might grade higher today since it's older but whichever, if one looks close to this you're in the ballpark.
You can test cartwheel luster by tilting a coin under a light. You shouldn't see a full reflection (unless on authentic deep mirror proof like), but rather a "_/" headlights type design on the top or the sides but never(ish) both.
I hope that novel helped lol.
Well done, Azurescens.....great photos of real MS luster, and through plastic no less!
it looks MS, but dippy. surfaces seem a bit unnatural. also, make sure that is not pvc I am seeing around H in half on reverse.
I think it could go MS60... at first I was thinking 62, but the scratch and the apparent lack of luster made me reconsider. Cheers, RickO
