Re: Swapping pedigrees… worth the trouble?
I have a number of coins that came with set pedigrees, I've had most of them removed except where I consider them important, like Naftzger.
If it was mine, Id have PCGS reholder it with the pedigree Naftzger-Reynolds-Husak.
Re: PO01 1907 $10 Indian
Nothing wrong with that PO-01! Now for the green bean?
Edited to add: hopefully not a gold sticker 😂

The USPS needs to be broken up and sold to the highest private carrier bidder.... Problem solved! Any questions? As always, I have questions.
How does having a private carrier solve any of these issues?
Are UPS/FedEx/DHL/OnTrac/etc any more reliable, or just more expensive?
Does theft and incompetence stop once a giant corporation cuts costs to the bones and jacks up rates to increase profit?
What happens to the cost of postage for anyone living even a little bit away from a distribution center, particularly in small rural communities?

No private carrier would ever bid on the USPS mission. None. Ever.

Tell those folks too bad, you won't be getting mail any longer unless you are willing to go to the nearest FedEx or UPS location to fetch it?
Oh, and now it's going to be costing you $10 to send a letter, because postage rates are now set by the highest PRIVATE carrier bidder? Sounds great. Why didn't anyone else ever think of it? 😀
The private guys have already skimmed off a lot of the service that can be performed at a profit and at a reasonable price. They didn't need to bid for the USPS franchise to do that.
The USPS' problem, aside from problem employees that any large organization has to deal with, is legacy benefits that will have to be paid by the government regardless, and unprofitable service mandates that Congress, and its constituents, will never give up.
Good luck getting any private enterprise to have any interest in taking that on. For free, let alone the "highest bidder."
You guys crack me up! Nothing is 100%. It's an imperfect world out there.
The United States Post Office only lost $6.5 billion dollars last year. That's billion with a B! Gone $$ out the door with zero accountability!!! Government inefficiency at it's finest! Are you going to tell me nothing can be done or improved?? I don't wanta hear what you can't do, (those people should be fired on the spot!) tell me what you can do! If you're not apart of the solution, you're apart of the problem! Stby gentlemen, more to follow.
The USPS did not lose any money last year and has never lost money. It's not a for profit business, it's a service that we as a society have agreed to fund. It always has been. That may change but for now that's how it is.
How much money did the US military lose last year? Or, if you prefer something more local, how much money did various police departments lose last year? The answer is also none because they are also services, not businesses.
.
This thread is probably going to go poof!! but @lermish is correct.
Re: USPS postal thefts, probably inside the Jersey City Distribution Center
Years ago, working for the Post Office was considered a decent paying blue collar job. They need to make the job position more valuable again as an incentive not to lose the job, at least more than a quick score from thievery.

None of that has to do with your post that generated those responses. If you hadn’t included “Problem solved!” the replies would have been different.

So I guess I should have been generic and not so specific. But you got my point.

What "HA Estimated Price" are you speaking of? I'm unaware of any such pricing information being included in U.S. >coin lot listings - at least for the past several years.
Mark, I see estimated prices at the end of the description for currency on all the stuff. I thought I had seen it with coins, too, but maybe I was wrong. But I see it on currency right now with the auction LIVE as I type this:
Lot 21064
Fr. 34 $1 1880 Legal Tender PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. Exceptionally well margined, beautifully bright and with good original paper surfaces. Fr. 34's and 35's used to be seen with some frequency in top grade, but the active market of recent years has dried up the availability. Finding a piece as nice as this has become a challenge.
Estimate: $2,000 - up
Grade: Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ
Previous Prices from Heritage

Most of the coin listings had the PCGS price guide as well as pop figures shown with each auction.

I thought we were talking about the rare coin market. 😉
Re: Market Conditions Are Soft and Getting Worst
The idea that coins are not an investment is laughable. It's said because it a line that needs to be toe'd for certain people... but for someone to tell me that buying a 1.8 Million dollar 1894-s Barber dime is because someone was nostalgic about Ice Cream Trucks is a load of poo.
Why can't I get loans vs my collection? Why can I insure it?
Please stop with the coins are not investments.
This is not a indication of are they a good or bad investment... but they are still an investment.
I collect glass... Blown glass from the Appalachian area... I have spent strong money on pieces but these are not a holder of value... these are not investments. These are pretty things that make me happy. Are some pieces rare? Very but I know that the money I spent there is most likely gone. C'est la vie.
Is the market softening? Sort of..
If you have non registry and non PQ(CAC approved) coins there is a good chance your area is soft. If you own top line registry coins or CAC approved premium coins then your market is still going strong.
I have built multiple large collections in my life and the one thing ring true from early 2k to now quality has demand.
I appreciate the finance guys telling us to use better investment vehicles for wealth preservation and wealth building. I get it. Index funds yoy pay 17% or better and few things get you there year over year. But claiming rare coins is kot an investment is disingenuous.
My 2 cents from my corner...
