Why couldn't it be legendary? Everyone's got their own thing that floats their boat.
Why not 78T? It's as legendary as any other set.Legendary not compared to sets from the 50s and 60s? No way. Bland and Ugly. Also instead of Legendary why not just call it Epic too?
Personally, I don’t care for many of the 50s & 60s sets (i.e. 57, 58, 61, & 64 I find especially bland). While I appreciate the other sets from that era, none of those cards/sets really speak to me. Because they don’t depict the game I know as I knew it.
Just because a card/set isn’t ‘legendary’ to you, that doesn’t make it any less so for someone else. There’s plenty of room in this hobby for everyone. I like what I like - and that doesn’t have to diminish what someone else likes in the slightest.
Re: Unusual 1916 Standing Liberty token - Cosgrove Airways 1928
Boy, they sure are close, but look at the "morse code" inner border on the left side of each, especially above the top pf the wall. It seems to be connected to the rim on the Cosgrove piece, but not on the Cline piece.
That said, I could see both dies as having been made from the same hub used by a token manufacturer. Cline might have found an old, second obverse die and used it for his modern tokens.
Re: Year in review: What are your favorite numismatic pick-ups of 2024?
I acquired some coins in 2024 that I like and also had some raw coins graded in 2024.
However, after reading this thread and seeing the amazing coins presented therein,................ I have decided to not post photos of any of the coins I acquired and/or had graded in 2024. They simply do not belong in a thread as cool as this one.
I really am attracted to the Koban shown by Lermish, the medal posted in the opening post of Mr_Columbo, the 1907 AU58+ Indian posted by Mr. Spud and the PANPAC 1$ posted by Mirabela.

Another show east of the Mississippi. AS almost all are. Tampa Bay show was a crash as many dealers told me.
The westerner collectors are very much ignored . I don't travel cross country to such shows anymore . I can use the money to buy at the many online auctions and get great coins. I know east coast dealers conversely hate coming to the west coast anymore., many boycotted the last ANA show in Anahiem 2016, and many Long Beach shows presently. Has anyone else realized this great split/ devide in the collector show circuit.
The ANA WFOM this year in Oklahoma city may bring in some westerners . We will see?
I hear many eastern dealers though already complaining of the location .
Everyone I've spoken to, from anywhere in the country, is unhappy about OKC. I won't be going.
I probably won't go to IMEX either but will be a lot more likely (even coming from the west coast) because there are direct flights. And Nashville is a lot more interesting of a city to visit than OKC.
Re: Historical CAC Gold & Green Sticker Rates Across All Series
As 38-D Buffalo Nickels and BU Mercury Dimes being candidates for CAC gold stickers, what about some "MS65" blue Ikes in rattler holders?

A hard pass for me.please PM your thoughts, we are spending quite a bit of time, energy to make this a great event and everyone who attends will love Nashville and the show!
Best wishes, but please dial back the hype.
Largest? Probably lucky if it makes the top 10.

This is exactly the same obverse J. Cline used on his tokens not terribly long before he passed. Patrick Mint comes to mind.
I agree they are pretty darn similar. These had his Florida address on the reverse side and he moved there in the mid-1990s. I think he was giving the tokens away at shows into the 2000-2010 range. Below is a composite of the Cosgrove token on the left and the Cline token on the right.
Re: Can't Sell on eBay Please Help!
No offense intended, but that is a terrible way to list the items, for the reasons given above.
Try looking at it from a buyer's perspective. If you were searching for any of those items, how would you ever find that listing? Nothing is mentioned in the title, and the category you have it in doesn't apply to any one item.
Many of those items are in demand, but they cut across several distinct areas of collecting. It isn't really reasonable to expect someone to buy all of it just for one or even two of the items.
Also, the signed items are some of the big ticket items but there is no authentication.
Re: Fortin plate coin?
i just thought it odd he might be using Great Collections for sales.
He has been selling Seated Dime variety plate coins on his site for several years.
So the December 2024 coin on Great Collections could have been owned by someone who bought it from Gerry previously.
Great Collections coin sold Dec 2024
Fortin F-106a plate coin
On the plate coin, I see a scratch/gouge on Ms. Liberty's upper right arm (viewer's left) which is not present on your coin.
Also, scratches on the rock and below ME on your coin which are not present on the plate coin.
So I don't think yours is the Fortin plate coin.
The GFRC Sales Archive shows 2 1838 F-106a VF25 coins sold in 2014. They do not have photos.
So the VF25 grade is likely not unique for this variety.
A very cool bisecting die crack on this variety!
