Hi from newbie Palm Beach Coins, LLC
Hello everyone,
What fun this has been! Thiswas a most interesting thread!
One of your members was kind enough to inform us of our mistake on eBay and encouraged us to introduce ourselves. I know everyone loves a good game of espionage, so I'm sorry to disappoint: Palm Beach Coins, LLC is a legitimate company with pretty good coin stock. Yes, we are newbies to both eBay and the online coin business in general and you are right; the consistency of our photos on eBay leave much to be desired. Our coin collection comes from just a handful of collectors/investors who, like me, are novices in this wonderful hobby. Yes, some of our pictures are inconsistent, but that's because we received the pix from different photographers, (some of them have no professional experience with coins). The worst ones probably came from me. I'm shooting with a simple Cannon Powershot S400 Digital Elph at 4 megapixels.
I sincerely appreciate the wonderful attention and critical observations you have provided in your assessment of our site and eBay activities. (As newbies, we need all the guidance we can get.) While the observations were all over the map, the logic was, for the most part, sensible and practical. Some of you, however, are quite observant and wise; Storm888 was my favorite as he was 100% correct in his assessment.
Let me see if I can answer some of your posted questions:
The owner of Palm Beach Coins, LLC has been buying on eBay, Heritage and others for many years. His eBay handle is Getaways4bid. We posted his eBay name with our listings so that we could verify a track record of successful purchases. Apparently, that didn't work the way we hoped.
As for our Reserves, you will find that they are below suggested PCGS prices.
Our shipping price was, admittedly, high at $14. This was a guesstimate that was thrown in before we had a chance to settle on a carrier. We will be bringing that more in line with the US Postal Service.
As for torinocobra71 offering to visit us, please stop by! We are located 6/10 of a mile south of the PGA - US 1 Highway intersection, on US 1. Make a left at the stoplight (which will be in front of Old Port Cove). We are in the Cove Plaza shopping center. Go to Old Port Cove Real Estate and ask for OPC Management.
Reading all your comments has been extraordinarily fun and educational. I will take ALL your advice to heart and begin immediately to fix the issues that made anyone hesitate (starting with deleting my website address from my eBay listings. I truly didn't know that that was not acceptable.) I also didn't know that we should have spent more time building up a positive Feedback account. Maybe we'll pull our higher end coins off the market and sell only the less expensive ones until we reach 10 or more positive FB.
Again, thank you for your attention and observations. I hope you will continue to share your knowledge and guidance with us as we attempt to share our coins with collectors such as yourselves.
Sincerely,
Rick E.

I have to admire your approach to this, many people 'Invited" to our forum come on here with quite a different attitude than yours. I hope things go well for you in the future.

I know we are all glad that you stopped by.
Please understand that nothing that was said
in the original thread was meant to degrade
your EBAY efforts or to hurt your feelings. MANY
of the folks here are quite experienced at rooting
out good/bad listings; sometimes, we get caught-up
in the Columbo moment and forget that there is
a real person at the receiving end of our discourse.
There are ALOT of helpful folks here, and they have
an encyclopedic knowledge of coins. ALL are very
happy to assist new EBAYers, and most are always
looking to expand their collections.
Please do not be a stranger.
Good Luck !

Do a search on photography here and you will get tons of helpfull info on taking good coin pics - no matter what type of camera you use(well, most types).
Oh yeah,
Welcome to the forum.
I started the infamous thread that got this thing started.
I believe I owe you an apology for the stance I took.
Thanks for being a stand up guy, and good luck to you with your eBay store.
You certainly proved to be the exception in this case.
Post away!!!!!

Thank you very much for the warm welcome. I appreciate the support. Our company has been participating on the eBay site only about a month and there is somewhat of a learning curve; at least when it comes to unwritten issues, like what to do with "buyers" that seem bent on just harassing the seller.
Case in point: Just Sunday a 'buyer' named kizer.hoover (2) outbid everyone to purchase our 1885-S $10 Liberty Head gold coin (PCGS MS63) and we received an eBay email on Monday that said he paid for it through Paypal. Well, our Paypal account showed no deposit all day, so I figured it will be here today (Tuesday). Imagine my surprise when I found, instead, a very negative product feedback on the same coin! A coin that has never left our office, nor has it been paid for! How can one be expected to grow a business when we have to deal with such behavior? To add insult to injury, his negative FB even erased my one positive!
You can read my FB here.
We don't even deal in SGS! (just PCGS and NGC).
Oh well, I didn't mean to vent, but I knew this forum would understand what I'm currently experiencing. Does anyone have any advice as to how to fix this? Should I return negative feedback or request a mutual retraction (even though I haven't written a single line of text)? I have emailed this individual suggesting that he meant his negative FB for someone else and to remove it from our page. Any suggestions?
Rick E.

No apologies necessary, my friend. At least you brought me in from out in the cold. It's very nice to be in the company of experts, no matter how I got here.

Thanks so much for the photography link. I will read it religiously!
I never imagined shooting something standing still would present so many challenges. : ) But, isn't that part of the fun of this hobby? Excellent shot of that 2006 WL, by the way!
N8: Thanks for the encouragement on our Cannon Powershot 4 megapixel. It is my personal camera and I just know I can get better shots from it (it's a better camera than I am a photographer). It probably has something to do with my lighting (and background, tripod, etc). Wish me luck!

Thank you for your very warm welcome. You are quite kind to offer your well wishes. This forum looks to be alot of fun (and very educational). Even though I am newbie, I hope to bring some level of qualified participation to this forum. If nothing else, I will keep you challenged with ridiculous newbie questions. : ) (I promise to use the Search function as much as possible first, though).
To: Storm88,
I appreciate your kind explanation. Rest assured that no one's feelings were hurt and I understand completely how this works. I might be a newbie when it comes to selling coins on eBay, but I've been a member of some auto forums for about 7 years. We get all kinds too.
For the most part, I've learned that the cream rises to the top. And this particular board seems to have some very nice people.
Thanks again for your generous welcomes.

PayPal payments generally show up in your account immediately. If the payment is sent using the wrong (misspelled or whatever) email address though, you won't receive it and you'd never know about it unless the buyer tells you he sent it. Since he thinks he sent it, you might ask him to verify the email address he used.
<< <i>Does anyone have any advice as to how to fix this? Should I return negative feedback or request a mutual retraction (even though I haven't written a single line of text)? I wouldn't leave feedback just yet. You can go into your feedback profile and add a comment to the feedback he left for you explaining your side of things. Since the item referenced in your feedback is not the one you sold, it's possible the buyer confused you with another seller- maybe you can straighten things out with him? If he did leave feedback for you that he meant for another seller, it is possible for him to get the comment he left for you removed. Once things have been resolved (or not), you can reconsider what you feel about how the transaction has gone and leave whatever feedback you feel is appropriate.
edited to add... ignore my suggestion to wait on leaving feedback- it looks like the guy is a nut. I'm not sure I'd want to waste time trying to reason with him.

You need to NEG HIM NOW. You also need to contact eBay and demand that his neg be removed since there will be no record of him paying for the coin.
Russ, NCNE
Inviting people to check out his feedback left for others might be instructive.
You might even be able to get this neg removed.
[Edit to add: This yahoo is Exhibit A about the pitfalls of leaving feedback as a seller before getting an acknowledgment from the buyer that they received the item and all is well. Looks like some other sellers were burned by that here.]
[Another edit to add: Needless to say, this guy has been blocked.]
I'll start to move on this as you suggested.
Ebay doesn't exactly come across in their literature as being very helpful in these types of situations, but it's obvious that this 'buyer' has issues. Wish me luck.
Thanks again!

I see you have some Franklins for sale. I'm not into those, but I hope to give you some business shortly on other items you might list, to get your feedback going in the proper direction.

1. File an NPB on the kizer NOW. If he fails to respond in 7-days,
EBAY may - at their discretion - remove the NEG he left you.
(A NPB who has NOT left FB and does NOT respond, is NOT
allowed to leave FB.) Make sure to close your NPB promptly
at the end of 7-days.
2. This is speculation. It appears, by the pattern, that the
kizer MAY be working to damage certain coin dealers for
the benefit of one or more other coin dealers. (Either that,
or he is just demented.)
The kizer should be NEGd now. I would NOT ask him for a
mutual WD. Any direct contact with him will only weaken
your position.
the NEG he left you will be automatically
removed.

Please turn on your "private message" (PM) function.
Thanks.
I took Rick up on his offer and went to visit him at his office. The company sells coins on consignment, I was mistaken in my thought in thinking they were a coin shop!
Rick thanks for giving me part of your day to meet you and your company. I wish you the best of the best for your sales on Ebay!

The kizer just carped his nest.
The NEG left by kizer will now be removed, if PBC
simply asks EBAY to remove it.

Oh my word. Lucky day indeed.
That negative feedback is good as gone, and this guy might be as good as NARU'd. His followup to the response proved his mental instability.
This may not last long
I wonder if he had to intentionally misspell those two words to get it past a filter.
To say the least.... that kind of stuff makes me mad
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Not as mad as it makes EBAY.
I'm back. Was workng late, and I'm sorry to have missed all of the great conversations here, but it's great to read all of your posts.
TorinoCobra71, thanks again for coming by! I enjoyed our conversation very much. It was great meeting a member of this forum (especially a Master Collector!). I'm glad you enjoyed the coins I had on hand this afternoon. The coins I showed you was a small sample of what I have on our website, so if you get the time, please peruse the site (pbcoin.com) and tell me how the rest of our collection stands up to what the forum members would like to see. The last thing I want to do is to waste anyone's time with inventory that is below par.
jobiwan, let me know what you might be interested in and I'll try to get it on eBay for you. I appreciate your offer of help with my FB.

I just turned on my PM. Thanks for the great guidance on how to approach ebay.
Here's my first newbie question: What's an NPB and NARU? I'll kick 'em into play, but I have no idea what they are.
Clueless Rick
Palm Beach Coins
An NPB complaint can be filed via the dispute-console
on your My EBAY Page.
NARU = Not A Registered User.
NARU is what kizer will be when EBAY sees what he wrote in your FB.

Free TIP for all:
Many experienced sellers have great luck at baiting PITA buyers into
using curse-words/hate-speech in any imminent and unwarranted
NEGative FB. Such bait is usually an off-EBAY email that uses "bad
language," or presses some other "button" the PITA is presumed
to have. Some sellers use phone calls to press these buttons.
If the PITA gets mad enough, he/she will often step over the line
in their FB comments, and EBAY will quickly remove their NEG.
DISCLAIMER: I neither approve nor endorse the use of such tactics.
This information is presented solely for informational and entertainment purposes.
Even if he hadn't screwed the pooch by dropping the N-word, isn't that some evidence that this guy is unhinged?
He bought it on Sunday and by yesterday or last night he had Neg'd me. The coin hadn't even left my office yet!
Rick
Thanks again Storm888 for the info! This should help me clear up the bad negitive rating. All of you guys (and girls) are just great. You all are worth your weight in gold to me and everyone in my office.

I also like browsing Morgan Dollars.

I will ask our consignment investors if they have any Capped Busts, Indian Head cents and Morgan dollars they'd like to part with, and I will personally be on the lookout at the shows down here in South Florida. Any particular years? Do you prefer slabbed or raw? PCGS or NGC? And what's your budget for the coins in question? I'm going to a small show tonight, in fact, so I'll search some tables for you.

Have you been in touch with any of the other sellers who were slammed by this loser? It might be interesting to compare notes, especially where this name and address are concerned, and to make sure all the others who were slimed know this so they can get this guy out of here and wipe the negs from their record.
