Actually my take was that Dorkkarl simply preferred to have the coins in his collection raw -- he seemed to acknowledge that the TPGs set a standard for the industry that was beneficial.

A couple of years ago when I was a newbie lurker and a recent returnee to collecting, I wasn't sure what to make of DK's posts, but I quickly realized he was one of the more knowledgabe and thought provoking members on the board. Although there are some great board members here (too many to name), I miss Karl's posts and hope he comes back or is back under a different name. Brian

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

DK -- you have been gone so long many raw coins have been slabbed! Some have been treated with MS 70. Some have been dipped. To me it makes green label holders worth more but you might disagree.
If you want to continue your quest you need to tell people they should buy what the like and throw away the plastic...
As a newbie who only interacted with him briefly before his mysterious disappearance I must confess to missing his (her? ) paraphrased Occam's Razor quote and magnificent monotony re: raw coins and the collector:investor dichotomy.
Do your best to avoid circular arguments, as it will help you reason better, because better reasoning is often a result of avoiding circular arguments.
