Theyre all nice but I like number 1. To me, it just seems like more is going on and I like the look. It makes me think of pinwheels and a lady with a butcher knife in her breast. Kind of comical in a grotesque risque way.

BINGO! I had the opportunity to see this error collection a couple of months ago. A very fun group of coins. Thanks for sharing these Dennis.

That's a pretty sweet double error there Craton. Not only is it clipped and broadstruck but the quality is very nice also.

Oddly enough (or not) I picked the most popularly picked coin. I think it has to do with the very unusual appearance.

I agree. The only coin that isn't ugly.

Probably not the rarest, but I like the 1835 off center cent.
Nice color, eye appeal, dramatic error and high grade.image

What is interesting is how much these coins circulated. Not much error collecting going on in the very early 1800s!!

I voted for the reverse brockage.

An old gentlemen I knew when I lived in New Jersey had a nice example of one of these. I don't think that the rest of his collection amounted to too much, but that one piece was really super. I've never gotten into to errors that much so I have never owned any large cents like this group.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

All are cool. I think the brockage is the coolest, though.

Yes Condor101, I do recognize the coin. As Breen states, "#1901 1848 Small date. 7 known. Not mint work; included less for reasons of tradition than to avoid confusing inexperienced collectors. All are in low grades."

This piece pictured appears to be a new addition to the census of this highly deceptive counterfiet cent. All the other coins known are in low grades G to F and at least 2 are error coins. One being triple struck and the other being overstruck on an 1840 Large Date cent.

What is even more amazing is reading the names on the pedigrees of the coins Breen traced, Chapman, Newcomb, Starr, B. Max Mehl, Parmelee. Proskey and Sheldon to name a few.

The amazing thing about this poll is that the most popular coin (the brockage) was perhaps the least expensive of the 7 errors, whereas the least popular coin (the 1823 off center) is perhaps the most expensive.

They circulated because one cent was a nice chunk of change back in the day and folks were too poor to save them so they circulated. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it image

I liked the 1814 tab double struck, although had the date not been on the coin twice, I'd have probably gone with a different one.
