I have an economy submission that PCGS received on 12/17/03 -- right around the same time they announced that the turnaround time had been reduced to 35 days! Not for me I guess, oh well...
But what do you suppose the odds are that the next time we call in for a status check, the customer service person says, "Well you know, the Economy turnaround time is currently 90 business days."?
Thats discouraging. My submission was received on 2/9/04. If I'm lucky I'll get it back by May 10. I plan on moving in June due to my retirement. Hopefully I'll have it back before then.
Just got my grades posted today from an economy submission. PCGS received them on 12-30, so give an allowance for registered shipping from west coast and it will be about 60 days turnaround on the nose.
If you always tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.
Yeah, it was economy Russ (checked my submission form to be sure). I was a little surprised to get them so soon myself. 12 coins total consisting of Morgans, Mercury's, Barbers and Early Commemoratives.

I'm still waiting for economy received on 12-8. What is your secret to get ahead of me?

I'm going to rule out the possibility of them "liking me" considering some the grades I got! Had 4 bodybags, plus several with lower grades than expected. Did have one winner, I guess that's what keeps you coming back!

As a new CC member, I find this news rather discouraging. Clearly the management at CU is aware of the growing dissatisfaction among it's members regarding the turn-around times for Economy submissions and yet we see no effort on their part to remedy this ongoing and serious problem.
Has there been an official position been made by CU with respects to addressing this issue?
The first in, first out thing at PCGS is like the Loch Ness Monster, or the crash in Roswell. There are people who think it happened but most of us know it doesn't exist!!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!
But customer service is open 3 hours earlier to tell you are looking at summer till you can expect your coin. I think turnaround times should be changed from days to seasons!! Current turnaround times are: Mid to late summer, but could be early fall
Geesh ... I can safely assume, of course, that the extra 25 days on the turnaround time applies only to submissions received today and after, right? Mine still will be done somewhere between the 40 days (when shipped) and the most recent 65 days, right?
Thank God I ponied up the $$ for regular and paid for the 7 day service on a coin I wanted quickly. I almost sent the regular order in economy, but decided that I wasn't in a gambling mood.

Grader: I'm tired of looking at all these damned JFK's!!! I QUIT!!!! David Hall: Damn, another one bites the dust. Carol, could you update the website with a longer economy turnaround time please? Carol: OK, so what's it up to now? David Hall: Just put it at 90. Honestly I stopped counting. The good news is, see those 5,000 coins over there in the corner? They were submitted under Modern Economy. We don't have to grade them now, because they're no longer modern! I mean they were when they came in, but...just ship them back!

<<< If one uses the correct flips, ET Kointainer Saflips, and NO polybags, they can sit there for years and be just fine. >>>
Russ, That is assuming they are stored under correct conditions 24/7 at PCGS. If they are stored in a place that is either too humid or too warm or constantly changing due to the A/C being turned off at night, the coins can develop problems regardless of what flips they are in. It gets pretty warm and humid in SoCal in the summer i hear.
I have just checked some of my submissions ( on the off chance! ) and found one (28th Jan) has a set of grades, no posting date or email confirmation. All the grades were one or two lower than expected compared with previous sendings, are they trying to raise extra funds through resubmissions?

Looking for PCGS AU58 Washington's, 32-63.
<< <i> I plan on moving in June due to my retirement. Hopefully I'll have it back before then. >>
I'd suggest you fill out one of those little address forwarding cards at the post office.

<< <i>If, as David Hall claims, (contrary to what CS says), that number is calendar days, this update is simply reflecting recent reality.
Russ, NCNE >>
David has informed the department that it is calendar days.
You should not be told that it is business days.

I figured that was probably a communication issue. Glad they're now on the same page.

Are you sure that's an economy submission? What dates are the coins?

But they've been saying that since about last October, so the bottom line appears to be that we're stuck with no good alternatives.
<< <i>90 Business days = 4.5 MONTHS! not counting if there are any holidays in that 4.5 month period. >>
You need to recalculate that. According to several posts, that's 90 calendar days not business days.

Do you think the 500+ Franklins, and 3000+ Morgans I've been sending in each month since November are having an impact?
So where are all these coins coming from?

I can think of a dozen reasons not to have high capacity magazines, but it's the reasons I haven't thought about that I need them.
<< <i>Well it looks like they added another grader but the days still went up? >>
I don't think he's started yet. Next week, I think.

Good point. Since I started using Saflips I've never had a problem, though. And, I've had coins sitting at PCGS for up to three months in all seasons.
