    Lucy.

It is because of people like you that makes this a great place.

Since I joined the message forums two and a half years ago, I have learned allot more about series of coins than I ever thought possible. Of course, I mainly collect errors, but I also like to collect a little bit of everything else.

The coins I have bought, I only bought because of some helpful information I got only from the forums.

Thanks everyone and thank you HepKitty Lucy.
  • I'm pretty new here but have lurked for some time but I'd have to say one of the best positives of a community like this is simply the interesting and unique personalities that post here. Toss along some great information and their you have the value of a place like this.

Thanks for putting on a great giveaway.

  • The people here on the boards are great. I've had 2 board members do me personal favors and they asked nothing in return. This from 2 guys that have never even met me.

There is a good mix of people here and many different opinions. I enjoy seeing everybody's viewpoint.

The input from the community here can give us new focus on what is out there to collect, where to find new acquisitions, and how to view and define a collection. Russ is quite helpful with information on Kennedys and varieties, MadMarty is a name synonymous with the definition of AU58 and grading, Lucy and Russ both demonstrate the power an addiction to one coin can hold, K6AZ helps to develop people's appreciation of toned Morgans and the Airplane Nut shows us that even the youthful can know more about certain numismatic areas than peers twice their age. The community is a window that provides many paths for people in numismatics.
  • This place is the best, because you can talk to other folks who enjoy and share your passion for this hobby. Then, you have an opportunity to meet them face to face at shows, conventions, etc. What could be better?imageimage

What I really like about this hobby is the diversity of the coins and the coin collectors. Our CU Forum community is a microcosm of the worldwide coin collecting community.

It's great that such a wide variety of people can gain so much enjoyment by specializing in so many different aspects of the hobby -- such as Classical U.S. or Foreign, Modern U.S. or Foreign, Gold, Silver, U.S. Silver Dollars, World Crowns, Major Denominations, Minor Denominations, Error Coins, Varieties, Bullion Coins, and other specialty collecting groups.

Each of us who participates by sharing our personal experience and particular expertise are the strength and heart of this forum. It makes for a stronger overall coin hobby and marketplace. We can agree to be different, respectfully agree to disagree, and still appreciate each other's specialty collecting group.

Thanks to the many of you who have already enriched my collecting experience during the relatively short time that I have participated in this forum.

  • Aside from all the knowledge shared here, my favorite thing about this community is the friendly people. Everyone gives each other a hard time once in a while but every single person I have gotten to know tells me just how wonderful everyone is here. It's a very welcoming place for all of us... Thanks for giving us all a chance to keep things positive here. May God bless you all and thank you, Lucy, for reminding us of what is important. image
  • imageHi Hepkitty, i normally don't post to these but its been a long hard year for me and my wife (Debbie) too. lost grandpa, she lost grandma, both parents fighting cancer. I once heard a saying i will pass on, i hope you find comfort in it too.

God puts people in our lives for:

    A reason,
    A season,
    or a lifetime.

    All three are a blessing.

Even these good people on the forum fall into one of those to some degree or another......
and our family is what matters most...

P.S. this is not for the drawing, just for the few who will understand God's great love and maybe find some comfort....

I have learned more about coins and how to appreciate them mostly from this board. It's caused me to spend lots of money. image It also helped me learn to collect what I want. I've also been encouraged to get rid of all the common stuff I had that I liked for its quantity and replace it with much better coins I can enjoy every time I look at them.
  • BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,556 ✭✭✭✭✭
What I like about the forum/family here is that everyone has a right to learn and everyone has a right to be here.
Some people may make it not so fun, but that is like most families.
The other nice thing is that there is so much knowledge, and people looking out for others, that companies like ACG are less able to take advantage of us now.

I have learned much, and still have much more to learn, but I know that thanks to you and many others here, I will keep learning.

Nice half in your giveaway - isn't there too much clutter in the right field to go 66? 64 looks good.

<< <i>isn't there too much clutter in the right field to go 66 >>

This is what seems to have hurt this one... However, your seeing a blown up image, this stuff is less noticeable when actually viewing the coin. I can put it this way, this coin can hold its own against many ms66's that I have seen and owned....

One thing I like about the coin board is that there is almost always someone that can answer virtually ANY question that anyone has!
  • New collectors like me get a great education about coins, from watching the upper master collectors. And we get pulled to the DarkSide too. (Love the tug of war on these forums between Light and Dark.) You are right Lucy, these forums have ups and downs but it is a good atmosphere.

I would have been lost in beginning my sets if it had not been for the advice, insight, comments (snide and otherwise), and mostly good natured humor that I gleaned from the forum and it's members. Thanks to one and all! image Now, don't let it go to your head!

  • The best thing about the forum to me is the number of people that I've spokento on the net or met in person who are absolutly fabulous people.

People like Mike Prinze who I've done buisness with and had the pleasure of meeting three years ago, peple like Sinin 1 and the other Minnesota members I've coresponded with and met at Minnesota coin shows.

People like Jeremy who give me hope for the future [both inside and outside of the hobby.]

People like Russ who are always willing to share their latest coin pics and help other board members with theirs.

People like Miss Lucy, who has never as long as I've been here done anything to deserve an unkind word from anyone.

Registry members like the Dr. who would take the time to respond to someone he doesn't even know to shar his enthusiasm for barber halves and yes, show me the first pic. of a 92 O in mint state that I like.

People like Mark Feld who's informational posts go beyond anything 've ever seen a coin dealer do for the shear enjoyment of teaching or learning about this fabulous hobby.

To many more to mention, but those have been the positive things I've experienced since becoming a member last December and they by far out way the negative stuff.

Win or not, thanks to all.

There are so many great things this forum has to offer but one thing surely makes this forum stand out above the rest.

    Coinalot! image
  • There are people here willing to share their knowledge. I try to focus on that and have really learned tons. I try to share what little I have learned when I can.

Also I am very moved when JR organizes care packages for our troops and Jeremy organizes fund raisers for charity and to all those who have been very generous and trusting. These actions support my view that humankind is basically good.

    Great idea and give-a-way Lucy!

My first thought is the amount of diverse opinions and knowledge on these boards. I can't think of another place, including my local coin store, that I can get 50 different opinions on a question or topic in one day. Thanks to all here, as we make it great!!

THe best thing about this community of ours...

We keep coming back. Regardless of the short-lived interruptions, most (if not all) come back to enjoy being part of a group.

And we are all better for it.

    Regards,

    Mark
  • Lucy,

Thank you for your thoughts and for your friendship.

I'd have to say the most positive thing about these boards for me has been the comradery. Through thick and thin, most have stayed civil and friendly. I've been treated to the luxury of respect and an education from people who don't even know me. Any time you can find that in the wild-west of the world (and the internet), you've done well.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the opportunity. Good things about this community... Let me see... We can all talk about coins 24 hours a day, and even someone who knows better can mention the passing of John Ritter in the same sentence as Johnny Cash and not get flamed.

  • The best education I've gotten in numismatics has been on this board. Even met some friends in my own community on this board. This board is the first thing I bring up when I log on in the morning and probably the last thing I see at night. All in all, a great place. Matt

I love this forum. It enhances my collecting immeasurably by the daily interaction with other members sharing their insights and knowledge. Collecting would not be the same without a place to share with others with similar interests. It's awesome.

My favorite thing about this forum is that the people who come here love coins.
My wife, friends, family, they just tolerate my interest in coins, and say "that's nice" or "wow, pretty"
but are not really into coins, you know, daddy-o? they just don't understand

But you guys, you like to talk about coins, and share pictures of coins, and discuss grading and pricing of coins, and reflect on their history and beauty and the market for them, and all the nuances of the hobby, from the vagaries of third party grading to moderns versus classics, from collecting plastic to collecting copper, silver and gold.

And it is a community, isn't it? Each member has their own coin preferences and prejudices, their own unique background and knowledge base to share, each of us has our own strengths and specialties, as well as follies and foibles.

But we all share a love of round metal things that serve as money, and love building a collection that has meaning and beauty to each of us, and reflects our qualities as numismatists.

And like any community, there are disagreements, squabbles, fights, brawls, and all-out flame wars occasionally, and sometimes one of us even gets the big hook and sent on an admin "time out"

But through it all, it always comes back to the coins we love, and even though finding people online to share that enthusiasm with can never take the place of our face to face interactions with other collectors young and old, and the people who passed us coins and the ones to whom we will pass ours, it is still really nice to have a place in cyberspace where we can just sit down and see and talk about coins on our desktops. We are lucky people!

Liberty: Parent of Science & Industry

  • Being mostly a lurker, my knowledge of coins has increased exponentially since I joinded the forum. I have learned more here than any other single source. I guess what I find the most interesting about the board besides the wealth of information is the diversity of backgrounds of the various members. Everyone shares a common interest/passion for coins, but everyone has a slightly different perspective. Thanks to everyone for the experience. So sorry to here of your Aunt's passing, Lucy. You are truly a generous and caring person. Gino
  • I have learned much more than numismatic information, I have learned a bit about ethics, communication and what exactly a flame war looks like image. Don't get me wrong, I kinda enjoy those too.

I'ts funny that this is only the second online community and the first with mature indivduals. I have to say, it has been pretty nice so far.
