With every star, the dentils, and the forehead hair so crisply defined, I'm inclined to think it may be a hazy Proof, though I don't see the normal Proof contrast, haze or not. I'll guess 63/64 something or other
Grade on the holder says MS63. These are the seller's pics, not mine. The seller has no reverse photos posted. I have asked for them, but not received yet. It looked like a nicer and well struck(which I am looking for) MS63. Agreed that the marks on the cheek might keep the grade down, but I was hoping to send it for regrade and upgrade to a MS64 given the strike. If I buy it, any chances of that or upgrading for a plus? Of course I might pass once I see the reverse, cause it needs to be well struck too.
I doubt strike has much to do with the grade. I have seen many really bad strikes get MS65 or highter. You don't need a full cob to get any grade i am aware of. They mainly go for surface quality and luster.
Anyway, the upgrade wont really net you any money, unless you pick it up for a song. The price wont go up much from 63 to 64.
Color and a bit of haze / mottled toning are common for Unc. Liberty Nickels. NGC coins sell for significant discount to PCGS counterparts in this series. Agree with prior comments re strike not figuring much into the grade. If the reverse is hammered and has clean surfaces, it might upgrade, but I wouldn't be the farm on it. As others said, there's a price jump between 3 and 5; I wouldn't pay strong $ for this coin as a 3, or as a shot coin, nor would I pay submission fees to try to upgrade it to a 4.
If you want a Liberty Nickel in 3 as a type coin and the price is right, it's probably okay, unless the reverse looks horrid.

As a collector of this series, I can tell you that 1900 is usually one of the best struck years I see. The most solid struck Liberty nickel I ever owned was a 1900 PCGS MS64.
I found a photo of it:

Finally a topic I can talk semi-intelligently about!
First guess would have been MS-63 to me.

As has been stated, the 1900 has by far the best strike of any date in general. I don't think it'll upgrade to a 64, but it's a nice MS63. Post reverse pics when/if you get them
Want to buy an auction catalog for the William Hesslein Sale (December 2, 1926). Thanks to all those who have helped us obtain the others!!!
Due to the advice of other collectors of the series, I will be passing on the coin. I was really wanting MS64 or better. I never got reverse pics anyway. Thanks for all the opinions.

The fields look good - the portrait does not- 63 seems reasonable- 64 on good day
