Hold The Group Sub... LSUTigers1973 (Bill) is selling fake Wilt Chamberlain Autographs!!!!!!!

I am looking to pick up a Wilt autograph as he is one of the final (5) I need for my NBA 50 greatest set and I stumble across this BIN by non other than LSUTigers1973 (aka Bill))

Link

What gives Bill with passing off fake Wilt Autographs on eBay at 49.99 or Best Offer?? You know real Wilt signed cards go for 200 to 300 easily, this is one of the worst fakes I have ever seen (just look at the other PSA/DNA examples), and you submit cards to PSA all the time, so obviously if it was real you would get it slabbed and make money off the card.

Bad play my man.

I'm not an autograph expert so I won't say if its real or not. Yes the price is way cheap, but LSU Bill has been a great member of this community. Plus he's given away lots of nice freebies over the years. Why didn't you PM him and ask him about the auction instead of trying to throw him under the bus?

    Just my observation,

I'm sure there's a perfectly good explanation. To his credit, Bill provides a link to PSA's quick opinion, so....

Did you request a quick opinion from PSA/DNA on the auction, or are you just spouting off nonsense as usual?

  • << <i>I'm sure there's a perfectly good explanation. To his credit, Bill provides a link to PSA's quick opinion, so.... >>

so he would leave 200-300 dollars on the table on an authentic card?

Bill has some explaining to do for sure.....

No nonsense here. Use your eyes. It is not even a good fake worth sending off to PSA/DNA for quick opinion (which by the way I have seen the same line used on many fake autos over the years to add a sense of legitamcy to the sale).

    Bill....

Care to explain where this auto came from and why you are selling a fake?

I'm not a Chamberlain auto expert, so don't know.

Personally, I'm willing to give him benefit of the doubt and an opportunity to present his side before jumping to conclusions.

I think a PM would have sufficed. Then, if he didn't reply to it, then maybe say something on the forum.

Also, his eBay handle is well known here. Having said that, if he attempted to pull a fast one, dude has some SERIOUS brass balls.

    Just sayin...

I knew this story was coming. I bought the card in a lot and I had no idea if it was fake. LOLOLOLOL.

    Bill,

You have been busted plain and simple and you know enough about cards (YOU are running a group rip) to understand about authentication of autgraphs and submitting cards.

I would recommend you pull the auction ASAP, as every minute it is up it does nothing but pull down your reputation.

What does the other auction have anything to do with the fake you are selling?

  • bman90278bman90278 Posts: 3,453 ✭✭✭
Hey DrJ, Please look at this link of recent ebay completed listings. After looking at the listings I don't feel Bill left any or much money on the table of the auto is indeed authentic. Plus Bill did put a nice big link for PSA Quick Authentication.

Here's a question. Do you think Upper Deck contracted with these players NOT to sign any Heroes cards that Upper Deck didn't have them sign exclusively? I have seen Aaron and Williams heroes cards signed and not numbered, meaning they weren't official UD issued. Would have been a good move on UD's part to avoid confusion, fakes, etc. Not sure that ever happened in Wilt's case.
Kiss me once, shame on you.

    How about rephrasing your post?

    Bill,

Based upon my experience, that Wilt auto appears to be fake and I suggest getting a quick opinion. If it comes back as forged, I suggest you cancel the auction and take it as a loss.

I'm sorry this happened to you.

DrJ, I was thinking the same about this thread. You are ruining what reputation you have by continuing this thread.

Not sure what you motives are, but you are totally out of line.

    Gumby,

Thanks for providing the board this wonderful service.

I will put my money where my mouth is as well. I will also order a quick opinion and if it comes back authentic I will pay Bill twice what he is asking for the card. If it comes back questionable or unable to provide an opinion, Bill will pay me twice his asking price.

    We got a deal Bill?

It is time to man up.

If the card comes back authentic, you get double Bill's asking price from me. If it comes pack questionable/unable to give opinion, you pay me double Bill's asking price....

Time to step up if you are so confident it is real.

edited to add: I'm not confident one way or the other. If you look back through my previous posts, you'll see that I've never said I thought it was real. I just asked if you ordered the Quick Opinion service before coming here and blasting Bill.

Hola all, just getting in case it gets locked.
  • Bill,

I will even take it one step further....

If the card comes back authentic, not only will I buy it from you for $100, and refund Craig his 7.50, I will issue a public apology to you, Craig and anybody else who think's it is authentic and I was just blowing wind.

I would also expect a public apology and promise from you not to sell fakes in the future if it does come back fake....

Uh, the Seller provided his photobucket account for pictures of the collection he was selling. Considering the purchase was for over 200 cards, did you expect him to post every single picture?

Again, you assumed the worst and called out a respected member without doing any research.

Because of the circumstances, if I was Bill, not a chance in hades would I accept your "bet".

Personally, I would wait for the quick opinion before doing anything. If it comes back as fake, I would cancel the auction and take it as a loss. If it comes back as legit, would provide PSA's opinion and increase the price 4-fold, thanks to DrJ.

  • I'm not taking your stupid proposal.

However, if PSA/DNA says it is likely not authentic, I will take the auction down and relist on the BST forum here. It can be a live auction and anyone willing to take a chance that it is actually authentic can bid. The proceeds from the sell will then be donated to Stown's Race for the Cure campaign.

And, just because that's the way I roll, if it is deemed authentic I will still auction it off here in a live auction and donate half the proceeds to the same charity.
