What year did Coin Doctoring fall out of vogue?

Why did collectors fall for the MLB RC designation?
Seems like the system of first card from a pack or set was working for years. Did we have it wrong all those years? I think they pulled a fast one on collectors. Remember those cards we laughed at in the 90's like a 1995 Jeter "Rookie"? Now collectors take them seriously like that's a rookie card see it says it on the card. -
Christopher Columbus and the Wisconsin Extra Leaf Quarters

You know i have been watching the debate between many professinal variety experts. As a jeweler ,Graduate of GIA and a long time engraver i wonder where some of you have come to the throughts you have. I have wondered if some experts have come to the conclusion because the Leafs did not show there face in Michigan. Money… -

There are coins from four different 1861 half dime obverse working dies that have been called 1861/0 overdates. The diagnostics from the four dies around the date are exactly the same, supporting the conclusion that this was the result of a damaged date punch. The shape, size, contour of the metal around the 1 is not in… -
Re: Six billion pennies missing
The attrition on worthless coins is staggering. The penny is worth 2c face value but anyone worrying about amounts so tiny is not going to see the more important values. In order to have real value you'd need at least 5P. Perhaps the saying needs to be updated to account for inflation. The simple fact that people are… -

Re: 50 basis points is a Pivot................SO HOW DO YOU VIEW A PAUSE ???
Yet most people read something and take it as gospel. Most people believe that Wall Street was "bailed out" in 2008-09....FALSE !! Conversely, union pension plans have gotten tens of billions of dollars in $$$ that didn't require any management changes nor paying back of the $$$. What a scam. There are 5,000 banks. No… -
Re: Which coins historically have been used in coin-operated machines?
I remember slugs you could find at construction sites that would mimic quarters and some people would use them in machines. In time the machines got more and more accurate in differentiating real from fake or inappropriate coins. Here's a quick overview: "Coin-operated machines identify coins through a combination of…
