Christopher Columbus and the Wisconsin Extra Leaf Quarters

You know i have been watching the debate between many professinal variety experts.
As a jeweler ,Graduate of GIA and a long time engraver i wonder where some of you have come to the throughts
you have.
I have wondered if some experts have come to the conclusion because the Leafs did not show there face in Michigan.
Money Plays a big factor in these things .
For instance machine doubling is done on the Horizontal and hub doubling is done on the Verital with the new way
of doing things now days .
So maybe we should plan for this to happen.
The Leafs are a new variety and should be left alone to become the coin they could be.
For the Doubters of the the Wisconsin Leafs, its was done at the mint. The Mint has already stated that fact.
We collecters , dealers and what have must remember Columbus had his doubters to . And they thought
the world was at one time flat and you could fall off the edge if you sailed to far.
This is some of the thinking that some have.

Hows this one ! A engraver ,

He might have been missing around and put the dies on the bench for he was talking to someone
other , not watching what he was doing. But the mint has already said how it was done.
In time we will know because things come out in the end.
How about the seated lib, that was done by a night gaurd , i have read.
How about the 2005 Coin World telling us about a coin that was sent to PCGS they said it was done out side the mint
so the old boy put it way for two decades, the mint comes out said they made 2 of them. People make mistakes.
Coin sold for 100,00 dollares.

Columbus was one of the first seafarers to realize that the trade winds blow east to west down off the coast of Africa and west to east up by England. This way he could be sure to be able to return to Europe. This was a closely guarded secret - insider information.

It was known by the ancients that the world was round.

The fact that The Mint said they are a "Come-together" (a die clash in our parlance) only serves to add additional interesting things to write about regarding these coins. As numismatists we know much better what it can and cannot be. A Die clash? Give me a break!

The reason it cannot be a die clash is:

    1) There is no corresponding design on the obverse that could have made it.

    2) If you imagine looking at a die, with everything backwards and incuse, a die clash would make an impression only on the highest points (field areas usually). It is easy to think of low shelf-like areas and smooth curves being caused by die clashes, but the Wisconsin Extra Leaf are deep canyons compared to typical die clashes.

Concerning the Wisconsin Extra Leaf Statehood Quarters, it is obvious that pride and or competition for the collector's money (greed) is what is driving many of the outspoken error coin experts to shut the door in exploring the real cause of these rare quarter varieties. I trust that Chris and Rick's Summer ANA Numismatic Theater in August in Milwaukee will discuss a very likely explanation of the cause of the WI Extra Leaf Quarters. This will be a seminar not to miss !! I trust that Arnie Margolis will accept Rick Snow's invitation to attend and add his "Expert" ideas to the discussion. My interest is to see and hear a logical discussion and for most if not every participant to leave the meeting with a fair and open opinion about how these collector coins came about at the Denver Mint in November, 2004. Enjoy collecting coins !! Mark.
