Seattle Boeing Coin Show report. :)

I know you're all dying to know if the show came off as planned. Well, it did. Kent was clearly hit harder than other parts of Seattle by the recent storm - lots of streets still closed and many trees still down. The folks at Kent Commons however were ready to go. Show opened promptly at 10. Stood in line for a bit with… -
Re: Are U.S. Collectors the most sophisticated?

I think the fact that we have so many die varieties, errors, rarities, oddities and that coupled with COMMEMORATIVES..... creates a view that we are "sophisticated" or maybe having a "broader" knowledge of numismatics. I think by world populations and cultures, we have a greater number of collectors per capita than other… -
Re: $22,000 for a 1940 Lincoln Cent !!!!
Cladking, We have had many interesting disscusions on this subject over the last few months. I hope you can tell from the things I have said that I have nothing against modern coins or the people that collect them. Several of your responces to my points I do disagree with strongly however. 1. High grade moderns aren't… -
Re: Bubble Mailers Code
Spam it may be, but Royal Mailers does seem to get a warm reception on the BST, and I for one am listening to this spam, as it is well-timed. I was just thinking of ordering from them, and now the discount codes will make me think about it even more. I need mailers right now. RM, for future reference: we usually put "SSP"… -

Boeing Show Report - gotta beat Bochiman, SwampBoy and SeattleSlammer!

Drove town to Kent after golf this AM for the Boeing show. Attendance was strong - hard to even find a place to park! Had already received a few texts from Bochiman as to where the collectible holders were located! Alas - all were from prior shows and overgraded. Coin shows have become more of a social thing for me lately… -
Re: How rare is the 1904 Philippine 1/2 centavo in red?
"You ranked #1.Your SET is one of a kind . how were you able to put such a beautiful and one of kind SET? any advice?" Dear Jepoy: My #1 piece of advice is burning passion. You have to really, really want to do it. #2, is if you want to build a great collection -- of any type of coin -- you have to focus and become… -
Re: Your Worst Bourse Room Experience
OK . . . .let me get back to the OP question and away from the above myriad of 'dealer-mistreatment' posts . . . My very first foray into the world of 'selling' coins (sorry RickO). I had 'made' two Classic cents (years ago) in VF20 and VF25 holders . . . bought raw and at a nice preferential price that allowed me to take… -
Re: What's the biggest financial homerun you have made in numismatics?
On a one coin basis, at the 1977 ANA (I think it was 1977) in Houston, the Bowers & Ruddy ANA auction had a 1921 Peace dollar cataloged as "MS-60, sharply struck, cleaned." As I looked at this coin I thought it wasn't cleaned, but was actually what was called a "Satin Proof" at the time, a very rare and desireable coin.… -
Re: Dillema
I'm of the train of thought as others here suggested - Go back and play dumb for a minute. Nothing drawn out - Just to draw him into saying he remembers it,as well he should. I would just stroll on in and say hey,I'm looking to sell this VDBS I bought from you,and I thought I'd give you first dibs on it. If he wants to…
