Re: 724 Year Old Lincoln Penny (Circa 1283)
That is indeed an oddity, however, it does have the appearances of being a gas bubble. Suggestion; take a tooth pick or a green rose thorn and try pressing down on the raised portion of the anomaly. If it indents, it is a gas bubble; if it does not, then it will fall into the die gouge or damaged die area. As was brought… -
Re: Don't look now but the Angels suck again..
I view it a little differently. I dont see that changing teams tarnishes a legacy. legacies like Jordans, Montana's, Willie May's, Wayne Gretzky's were already established. well established. all of it was already written in the record books. Jordan playing for washington, mays falling down in the outfield, Gretzky playing… -
Re: Is machine doubling on a coin a mint error?
Well, varieties are coins that have been produced from a certain die, over and over again. (DD's, Die Cracks, Die Chips, etc). Errors are one of a kind happenings during the minting process from blanks to the actual stamping process. (Clips, Laminations, Struck on a wrong planchet, and of course the nail just happened to… -
Re: Do clips on Civil War tokens or Store Cards add value or subtract?
Quite a number of the Wisconsin CWTs that were made from John Marr (A very talented Milwaukee, Wisconsin die sinker) dies seem to come with planchet clips. From what I've seen the effect on the price is usually neutral, at least for pieces that are not graded Gem Unc. MS-65. For those tokens it might be a negative since… -
Re: Any soccer fans out there?

Here are a few of my favorite cards. 1996-97 Beckham Merlin Premier Gold rookie, 1997-98 Beckham UD World Cup rookie (Three Lions version- more scarce), two packs of 1976 Topps (2 cards per pack), 1981 Stan Stemenkovic MISL/Memphis team issue (Autographed on back. He tragically died following a fall on ice. He was known as… -
Re: Problem with ANCO dime tubes - all 50 coins won't fit in many tubes
How well do the silver dimes fit? The clad coins have slightly greater volume than the silver ones. According to a July 5, 1973 letter of Alan J. Goldman, Assistant Director for Technology: "...clad coins generally have a thickness falling in the upper half of the allowable range." "The slightly greater volume was needed… -
Re: Franklin Grade Guess ? (Grade/pic up)
I don't know if I am seeing a scratch or lint in the Obverse upper field..... Coin could be GEM or fall down to MS63 depending on what this 'distraction' is... Bells appear incomplete, however sometimes they give em to you on the 60's issues if they appear full from most angles... The Master dies were reworked in 1960… -
Re: Lyman Bostock autographed 1978 Topps.
Marc I see your point on some auto's commanding xtra bucks due to "notoriety." My point, in this discussion actually had more to do with the fact that in many situations, it's neither morbid nor profiteering to engage in the sale of "limited' autos due to very few being available to purchase - this is 27 yrs. after the guy… -
Re: How to word this error as I do not want to be offensive? The most descriptive wording would be ...
With that shiny area, I think it's struck thru a small piece of clear thin plastic, like Saran Wrap. The WP Mint covers the Dies with this thin plastic sheeting, to protect it from dust and contaminates. On the rare occasion, you'll find a silver or gold eagle with the actual piece of plastic, with the struck design on it,… -
Re: Ever felt like you were done collecting?
I'm getting to the point . I don't want to be my old friend Miller who fell in love with cards . The guy had a binders and binders of vintage baseball from the 1940s to 1960s . Amazing stuff multiple Aaron rookies . Mantles up the wazoo and he worked as a bartender into his 70s and then he died . Never enjoyed the money…
