Re: Congratulations JHF - new Silver Rosy FB set ranks #2!
Dear JHF, I find that I know more about the clads then I do the silvers, and I agree/disagree with some of your comments. I think that the FB was not just a marketing ploy, but it was a very relavent course for Roosies. I for one was very hot about the idea of going to the FB, especially since I was sitting at 89% and… -
Re: 1969 & 1970 Topps Basketball Tall Boy thread exist, if not, let's get one started
After all these years, first time I see this thread, I am still stuck in my 1969 set, Have not added a card in years now. I always seem to get outbid for 5 of the 7 that I need . 7 TOM BOERWINKLE 14 JON MCGLOCKLIN 20 JOHN HAVLICEK 84 HAL GREER 89 BOB 89 BOB BOOZER I had assume after time they would go for less, but they… -
Re: Has this market peaked?
The market is always cyclical. Currently there are enough buyers driving prices up for the quality pieces. Advanced collectors know what they want and what is truly scarce. With the advent of the grading services some 18 years ago, many coins are now holdered in high grades, but are lifeless, cleaned and ugly. There are… -
Re: Looking for a cheap early 90's basketball wax box for my 7 year old
There was someone on here a couple of days ago trying to sell 89-90 Hoops Series 2 boxes for $6.00 + shipping. Can anyone use boxes/case of 90 Pro Set Football or 89-90 & 90-91 Hoops? Baseball Card Exchange has the same thing at the same price as well as some other items of interest. Hoops Series 2 1991/92 Hoops Basketball… -
Re: Here goes nothin. Never seen since 1976...
@KendallCat that is awesome man. My similar years were 83-89. I was born in 76 so that is how it got to be a passion for me. I'd go to our Lawson's and buy packs and stickers for those old sticker albums. I'd use my lunch money almost every day. 75 also has a special place in my heart. As my dad who was a forward thinker… -
How do I determine which cards to send in for grading?
I'm new, very new. I've been going through all my 89/90/91 baseball cards, early Garbage Pail Kids and other trading cards and I have some worthwhile cards even with the current grading price hike. Obviously the condition of the card is an easy answer, yes, but I'm not interested in discussing that. Looking at price guides… -
Re: If it isnt an investment.....
In looking at the PCGS 3000 graph from say 89 it’s obvious the trend for most part not very favorable from that point in time especially considering inflation and transaction costs. One can draw own conclusions from the trend line. When looking over Laibstains 1994 book on Commems recently showing much higher values on… -
Re: A Big One That Got Away! (1839 Small Letters)
The only US coins I collected seriously (back in 1981-89) were 1877 pattern half dollars in silver, and I don't think that I let any of the more important ones slip away. Since then, I've only been hard core on Central American Republic, and this is the only one I couldn't reel in. Definitely the best I've seen, but I… -
Re: What is a “Roman Finish” and how did it get that name?
The '27 nickels appeared in a Harmer-Rooke sale in "89. 5 or so dealers recognized them as special and colluded. The coins were bought cheap and Brian Hendelson bought out the group for full ownership. Everyone involved recognized the Type 2 reverse die and the look was "proof-ish". They were blatant proofs. No one seeing… -
Re: Gretzky Rookie Grading help
Hmm, that's a big gamble for me $ wise at this point of time. Lots of thinking to do. Especially with how graded cards are now, I probably should get a few 1000 of mine graded lol. And that's before a couple vending cases worth of 89/sakic rookie year complete sets that might have some 10's (close to 50 sets). So if it or…
