Would you ever consider buying a cleaned coin?
Ebay has what appears to be a nice ANACS 1901 Barber half. It is graded AU detailed Net XF but cleaned. I contacted the seller and asked about visible hairlines and milkspots; but the response I received was "I only know what is on the holder." I was considering a 20th century type set and this looked like a good purchase.… -

Re: Went a little Goofy this weekend on ASEs
I've only got 5 more of the ASE proofs left to sell then I'll be done with ASEs except for some bullion. Hallelujah. I decided I'd like to put that money to work elsewhere AND get the air of suspicion of milkspots out of the way. The Morgans got sold too. I'm pushing ahead with Walkers, finishing up some and already… -
Re: Milk Spots on 25th Ann. ASE Proofs...Advice Needed!
All of mine are still raw no issues here. <<How do you store ASE's such that you are guaranteed to never get milk spots?>> I don't believe there is a method. The way I understand it is, when the Mint rinses the planchets some of the rinse is not totally rinsed off. The rinse dries on the planchet and when struck, the area… -
Re: What do you guys think of this rainbow toned 1964 proof Kennedy - real or AT?
Russ, you should at least know by now that you can't remove milkspots. all the same, i have several MS Kennedy Half-Dollars with similar tone, not quite as intense, both OBV/REV from sitting in folders. most are from the 1973-1982 and i bought them from the same dealer who had taken them out of the folder and sold them in… -
Re: I have to ask....repeated sales of "unopened" 1964 proof sets?

I recently opend 10 1964 sets that had been in my uncle's basement for almost 40 years. Didn't find a single anything, cams, toned, AHs, NOTHING. Just today I opened 10 sets I bought on eBay, not from this seller BTW, and I found 2 nice Rosie Cams, one Washington cam, a great looking purple and gold Jeff and 3 AH Kennedys.… -

Re: Outbid by two people on eBay on a Saturday night
<< <i>I was just outbid on a coin and wasn't even the underbidder. How's that coin recession I keep hearing about on this board? >> I honestly think that as Laura Sperber said, only the sub-par material is what is hurting. I deal many in toned material, what many would consider "above-par" and I haven't noticed any drop in… -
Re: Lessons the Morgans can teach us about the 2006 W MS American Silver Eagles - ASE SAE
One of the more interesting unknowns with ASEs is how many will develop milkspots. While this is a negative to the people with these ASEs, it will make the series more interesting from a collector perspective in the future because there is and will continue to be ASE condition deterioration. This will expand the range of… -
Re: 2008 W Silver Eagle
69 v. 70? This topic has been debated and fought over in many threads in this forum. 69s are usually obvious, 70s in the eye of the beholder. Personally I have found that I coin will not go at 70 if there is a pinpoint luster break (very small shiny spot) or if there is any damage to the inside of the rim as it faces the…
