Re: Sealed box of 5 ASE 25th Anniversary sets just sold for $4500....why bother slabbing these coins???
<< <i>Spotting issues did not effect the 2006 20th Anniversary mania. I have three 25th Anniversary sets slabbed.. One in PCGS 70 and two in NGC 70. That is the limit of the graded sets I will hold long term. My 2006 Reverse Proof First Strike PCGS PR 70 already went once into spot review. PCGS fixed the coin or replaced… -
Re: Cudos to PCGS for
<< <i> << <i>Please share some specific's! >> On 9/26 PCGS logged in my 2 2006 20th Anniv. ASE's for milk spot review. I received an email yesterday informing me that they could not remove the spots & that I had an option for a cash out or lower grade with cash out. I opted the cash out, because the amount that was quoted… -
Re: Explain how this got into a 68 holder!?
<< <i>Maybe it was dipped pre-PCGS and turned in the holder? >> Unlikely. If the image in the auction is an accurate representation, and the spots are on the coin and not the holder, it is more likely that the coin SHOULD have been dipped before submission. Those are opaque milk spots that can sometimes develop after… -
Re: 1963 Franklin Proof questions...........
Not a high value here in a pr68, but a pr69 would be worth it. This is a tough grade. A pr69 had better have super clean fields with no milk spotting, zero hairlines/spotting, anything..... This one has to be very close to flawless... Very tough to find in Franklins, as they are notorious for hairlines which are a grade… -
Befuddled as to spots on a toned proof

Okay, I won this toned proof on Heritage and last week it arrived. I have been down sick with a very lousy flu and took a closer look at this toned proof. Besides its clear crack/scratch that was not evident on the auction image (and countless smaller scratches) What worries me the most is that I cannot figure out what the… -

Re: Conserve or no conserve
I don't think that's a milk spot, but I also don't think it's coming off. That said, it might be slightly improvable, and much of the other stuff in the field might also be, too. Since the offending spot isn't coming off, however, you're not getting an upgrade after conservation. I'd probably leave it alone and see if a… -
Re: OPINION on this frankie proof

first of all let me apologize, as I no longer have a working scanner so I did this at work. what i find weird about it is on the rev, the lower left hand corner of the bell, it looks like theres a thicker colored cameo portion, if im saying that right, almost like spot on a rug anyhow ive been digging thru old boxes that… -

Re: Worried about red/brown/toning spots on 2006 gold Buffalos
An acetone bath on ASE's when done upon receipt from the mint, will prevent milk spots. However, I have no idea about the spots on the gold Buffalo's.. from the description (and since they are .9999 gold), I would hazard a guess that it is residues remaining from either the striking process or post striking bath (if there…
