Re: Proving those X-Mas rack packs are bogus
I guess it's all "buyer beware" but scammers do affect all of us indirectly. When you decide to sell your stuff, people will be skeptical no matter how legit your item is. That affects the value. I collect cards for fun and scammers take away the fun. It would be nice to see Topps step in and say that they never… -
Re: Honest ebay seller admits cards are trimmed
admissions like these may look to be "honest" but they are really a call to scammers. its a tricky business... On one hand you applaud the guy for telling us they are trimmed, and on the other hand now these cards get turned over to some scammer who resells to some poor soul. In this case it looks like he had no choice to… -
Re: How to get yourself blocked on eBay by asking one simple question

While this particular buyer seems a bit unhinged and it’s normally a silly question to ask if a seller is selling the actual item or just a photo there actually have been eBay scammers that have sent a photo instead of the item. Here is a screen shot of a listing last year for a $500 note where the seller thought they were… -

Re: Fraudulent '57 Starr PSA 8 card on ebay

<< <i>I'm glad that I've buying raw cards with creases, pinholes, stains, and rounded corners. None of the scammers pay any attention to those types of cards. 1952 and 1953 Mantles seem to have the most problems. Also PSA 8 and PSA 9 vintage cards. >> keep the fun in old cards - keep the scammers out. -
Re: Selling 1 ounce gold coin
You will have no trouble selling that coin here provided you are willing to ship it for examination prior to being paid for it. We have many active long-time members with high post counts that can provide you with references. Unfortunately, we've had a few scammers sell coins here and disappeared after being paid without… -
Re: Raw Coins...I'm Done withThem
Once again I am amazed that so many on this forum want to blame the victim, instead of the scammer. The fact that all this crap goes on in our hobby does not make it right. Yes, all collectors should educate themselves, but it is the scammer that is harming our hobby, not the uninformed collector. Bravo to the OP for… -
Re: Less Than 24 Hours Later, Maybe I Haven't Seen it All in Fake '52 Mantles. . .
I know for fact that the 90331869 serial on the topps mantle is bogus. I have seen that same serial # show up in many, many bogus auctions. I think it's popular for scammers because it's in a PSA holder, but the serial number is bunk. Why would someone combine all 4 of these into one auction, when seperately they would… -
Re: charlotte gold coin sold for melt(actually less than)
I can't believe some of the alternate stories. How one goes from "I have a rare coin and someone offering me $1500" for it to selling it to a scammer for under melt is beyond me. That must be some good BS to convince someone not to take it back to the person for $1500.... but I guess maybe the scammer appeals to the… -
Re: anyone know wy some people cover up the serial #
A covered serial number is a red flag. It means "avoid this auction!!!!!" It may be a seller who intends to ship a coin other than the one pictured. It may also be a scammer who has "lifted" a photo from someone else's auction. In today's scammer-filled on-line auction world red flags should never be ignored. Legit sellers…
