Re: In the event of an Emergency, Grab your Gold and Run
<< <i>(b) Gold coin and gold certificates in an amount not exceeding in the aggregate $100.00 belonging to any one person; and gold coins having recognized special value to collectors of rare and unusual coins. >> That paragraph is a favorite of scammr who sell US gold coins to non-collectors at inflated rates. They like… -
Re: Please vote in this PCGS online Survey...
I think only an idiot would commit large sums of money for a coin which purportedly does not exist and even then, only because the bat had already been sold. The point being, when fantasy coins hit the market they get publicity just exactly the same way as recently released fantasy pieces. This creates a referenceable… -
astonishing new developments in the deb'n'harold saga - check it out!!!
i'm a longtime c4 member (colonial coin collectors club). of all the wacked-out things i might ever seen in my coin-collecting lifetime, i would NEVER .... EVER have expected this. "deb", our evil-sophisticated-coin-dealer-turned-ebay-scammer may not be such a smart coin dealer after all, but she sure shows up in the… -
Re: OT: spoof eBay emails? promo email, and notifications
Most are legit (semi- in that they do come from fleaBay). Of course, lots of spam pretends to be fleaBay too... You can dig into the headers to get some minimal level of confidence... stripping off my spam filters internal handling... start at the bottom and read up These are the headers where the message finally escaped… -
Re: email from dealer, good for a chuckle
do what i did: i had the same situation recently where the dealer used Coin Values pricing to get his "deal" across. I told him i already had that coin (which i did), but countered by saying: "you're an honest dealer, and i wouldn't mind giving you first crack on a couple similar coins." he said "sure!". I quickly tested… -
Re: Grading Standards and the Big Two...

<< <i>I think it's a travesty that there is such a thing as 'tightening up of grading standards' in the first place!! >> Yes, but many people think it is a travesty that there's such a thing as loosening of grading standards that necessitated tightening! << <i>Who was responsible for the standards to get so loose anyways?… -
Re: A Few Coins from my Favorite Era of US Coinage; the mid-1830s through mid-1840s

<< <i>Wow! There are some beautiful coins added to this thread. Even the one deleted by crypto79 was very cool! I guess I should have added the grades when the coins were posted. Here they are, in order of appearance- 1839 Half-Dime MS65 1836 Dime MS64 1838 Dime No Drapery MS64 1838 Half Dollar AU55 1838 Half Dollar MS63… -
Re: Finally got the color right but details suck...

<< <i>Are you by chance using revel bulbs? They give that pink cast to my pictures. I put a piece of white paper on top of the slab and set white balance then shoot. >> I actually didn't think the thread would get "legs" and soon enough smoeone will scream "Spammer" I have 2 lights and yes one of them is a "reveal" 60… -
Re: 1973 & 1974 PCGS MS66 IKES
David: I have no evil feelings towards you or anyone else. We have however had numerous discussions here of what should be offered for sale on this board. I think the general feeling is that it is appropriate to offer pieces to members here. List the series, date, a description, picture if you have it, and price. Or, ask… -
Re: ***NEW PICS***Barber Half: Harshly cleaned? Whats the details grade? Whats the approx value?
How about an apology to the entire forum for being a spammer instead of more attitude? Again, for sale, for auction posts are bad form on the main coin forum. While they may be within the letter of what is permitted, they are rude and inconsiderate type of posts. If every dealer with coins for sale did what you did, the…
