Re: 2007-W ASE MS70 PCGS
Cool. 2 things come to mind then.... A bunch of us that had the MS69 in the sets and sold them, and they were worthy of a 70, got screwed. They had said before they wouldn't do a MS70 unless they knew a way to stop the milkspotting.....what has changed? Their guarantee on these? The milkspotting? Is it only the -W that are… -

Re: Catching up: ASEs and white spots
The cause has been debated for years..... the acetone bath... when received, has, to my knowledge, shown to prevent milkspots. Russ was the first to offer this and subsequent reports have supported it. I have not seen any reports that state ASE's that were bathed in acetone upon receipt, later developed milkspots. Cheers,… -
Re: One more Frankie grade request for tonight
I don't see the milkspots with the larger pic....could be lighting. Anyway, I think it could go MS65FBL but, if the milkspots are there depending on lighting and tilt, I would go back to 64 The larger pic really exaggerates any nic or tic. Graders use their naked eye and a 5x loupe I believe....they don't take a picture… -
Newbie help (dialuppers beware?)

After reading the recent milkspotting threads, I went to look at some of my slabbed silver eagles, and this caught my eye. The scan makes it look a little bluer than in hand, a small silver "O" just above the L in SILVER on the reverse. There are some small areas of milkspots elsewhere on the reverse that reflect in a… -
Re: Anyone else gettting the Fat Silver Dragon today?

<< <i>Arrived this morning...Very nice.....decisions decisions.....to keep or sell later Now with my luck...it will get "milk spots" >> I am not familiar with milkspots in general... i have read in our forum here that they develope sometimes in slabbed coins and nobody knows what causes it... What if you keep your silver… -
Re: Would PCGS refuse to slab an NCS conserved coin?
Let me add my name to the list of customers whos NCS submissions have been slabbed by PCGS. I had one 64 AH with terrible milkspots that were resistant to my efforts, so I submitted it to NCS and they improved it. PCGS then graded it PR64 Cameo, and that was the correct grade. Without the remnants of faint milkspots, it… -
Re: Silver Commemoratives - Are These Bullion Coins - Milk Spots
what you're seeing probably isn't a "milkspot" but is instead some form of contamination, most likely PVC. milkspots are actually "strike-through" of a contaminant on the planchet and are impossible to remove totally since they are a part of the coin's surface once struck. that used to be a problem but the Mint has… -
Re: ASE set's seem to be levelling off
<< <i> << <i>I sold my last PCGS set w/milkspots for around $670 just last week. >> Was the buyer aware of the milk spots? If so, perhaps people don't care as much about them as I imagined. >> Oh yes, I make sure they know what they're getting. I even said "all sales final" and they still bid them up. I think it's also… -
Re: Surprise! 20th anniversary sets unfairly hyped?
Hopefully this at least will solve the "milkspot" problem. Maybe the burnished ones will be spared that dang acid bath that I am told causes the "milkspot" problems. I'll hang onto the three 3-piece silver sets I have ordered. One is a Christmas gift and the other I'll sell when I can make 50 or 60 bucks on it. The reverse…
